It was a nice epic. But it was also cringe factor eleven. So many things wrong with this movie.
Valkyrie is an underrated movie in Cruise's librarie. It's not that good of a movie, but if you know what he was going through at the time, it's definitely a testament to Cruise being Cruise that they managed to make a more than decent movie out of it.
Last Samurai was a great costume era movie, but he was also running on fumes. Him getting blackballed for his Scientology bullshit was probably the best thing that could've happened to him. Otherwise he would've faded into obscurity. He had to reinvent himself and he did. Took him some time. But he did.
Still waiting for when he takes on some more dramatic roles again though. Like 4th of July or Jerry Macguire. He's not a pure bred action hero.
