are the reviews saying this is a mish mash of easily filmed quotes and big aerial shots? Is it worth watching just for the set pieces?

>tfw there will never be an amazing historical coming-of-age/drama/action about Napoléon in his youth, when he was a young ambitious officer

>millions of young european men stand in lines waiting to get shot and die by cannons and muskets

18th century warfare was fucking retarded. good thing they died for a better europe of the future lmfao

whats retarded about it? if they didn't stand in lines they would get absolutely obliterated by the army that did

Fat Napoleon looked like Chris Chan

>The one time France was based and it was all destroyed by the Eternal Anglo and their puppet, the warmongering Prussians.
European history is pure autism.

>This does not even deserve the Emperor’s bulletin report, because this is dead serious
>The invasion of Russia I did a few months ago, everyone in Europe...
>THE SIXTH COALITION IS ANGRY AT ME! They’re blaming it at me, it’s my fault, I admit it, it’s my fault. I want everything about the continental system: OUT...OF...EUROPE!
>I’ll send in artillery, I’ll send in the old guard, I’ll send in everything in my POWER!

Is a weird way to spell gems user

I mentioned the Prussians you nitpicking faggot.

Napoleon's obesity was caused by poisoning, unlike yours.

The Napoleonic Wars- guns, Insults & Yuck

Movie 1: rise of Napoleon

>begins with Napoleon handed command of the down-trodden French army of Italy
>blitz campaign through Italy with the near-mythical battles near Arcole, Rivoli, Mantua, etc.
>Napoleon then sets his sights on Egypt
>the revelation inside the pyramids
>final scene: Napoleon sails back to France knowing he must make himself emperor
>titles roll with the text: "Napoleon returned to France. On november 2, 1799 he deposed the Directory. The french revolution had ended."

Movie 2: glory of Napoleon
>the 1805 campaign against Austria and Russia, a Napoleonic campaign by excellence
>the envelopment of Ulm
>the surprise capture of Vienna by Murat, one of the boldest moves of the Napoleonic wars
>Napoleon setting.the stage for the battle of Austerlitz by feigning weakness
>on the eve of the battle of Austerlitz, the french soldiers lit fires to celebrate the anniversary of Napoleon:s crowning
>title rolls with the text: "The next day, Napoleon bested a superior force of Austrians and Russians on the fields of Austerlitz. He was master of Europe."

Movie 3: fall of Napoleon
>begins on the retreat from Moscow
>the daring escape on the river Bérézina
>the flight back to Paris
>the German campaign of 1813
>final scene is his marshals pleading for him to put arms at Fontainebleau
>title rolls with the text: "after 16 years, Napoleon was finally defeated and exiled. He would return in 1815 and France would follow him"

Sure you don't get the Prussian campaign, or the early campaign of Russia but I think this is how you make a nice trilogy.

>Listen to me, listen to me, listen to me.
>Shut that goddamn thing off!
>I don’t care what you do, you get all those troops out of there, tonight!
>...I’m working it
>Go work on it!
>Do you realize something, do you realize something, let me tell you. If the Duke of Wellington sees those soldiers, that you put in damn Russia, he could invade through Spain, and we would have to go into exile? So you better get those goddamn troops out of there and fast!
>IM WORKING ON IT!

I wish I could dress like this irl

They stood in lines because muskets back then were inaccurate past a very short range

Not as many dided as depicted in movies. Muskets were innaccruate as shit. Battles in those days were like giant chess boards. It wasnt so much about killing every single enemy's much as out mavoureing them and forcing them to route. Both sides wanted to preserve their forces so generally troops weren't sent to waste if it could be avoided.

A general musket dual between two battlaions would be down to who ever got off the most effective first and who could relaod the quickets. Then whoever mounted the bayont charge. It was all about timing. Shoot too early you're out f range, wait too long and the other side will fire first. Charge too soon your men will lose momentum and the enemy will just shoot you down. If you've been out maneuvered and out played as officer you de pull your troops back and regroup. There wasnt a huge amount of shame in this it was just the rules.

inb4 "thats not how it worked, eg battle of X"
Fuck off, dont care.

>if there was half the french army and officers would be niggers and arabs

Are there really people as retarded as this poster? Oh every general and war hungry nation in the world just arbitrarily did things the same way because they were stupid!!!

If your force tried to scatter as skirmishers or spread out, the weapons of the age were slow to reload and fairly inaccurate. A force who stuck together in cohesion and advanced was objectively going to get more shots hitting as well as advancing to force the enemy to rout. A scattered line of skirmishers popping off a few shots at a time was shown to be massacred by line formation tactics.

What is this meme called? One of my favorites.

>Napoleon and Hitler never invaded the Turkroaches
Why do people like these 2 fags again?

>Giving a shit about the sick man of Europe

Napoleon because he had no reason to invade roaches, and Hitler because he liked fellow barbarian races

hitler had no interest in conquest beyond what was needed to make germany a self sustainable superpower, aka the Ukraine and caucuses

Imagine all those groundbreaking Barry Lyndon camera techniques in service of a Napoleon 4 hour epic.

>tfw De Lancey's wife was really cute at the Duchess of Richmond's ball

>anglos
>prussians
>not the vodka-snorters from the east

>Battles in those days were like giant chess boards

Ironically, Napoleon was a completely average chess player.

Napoleon being exiled, coming back and all his old men joining him, and being exiled again is some weirder than fiction part of history. If it was a movie people would walk out of theaters at how masturbatory it is.

Timothee Chalamet

>If any of you would shoot his Emperor, here I am!

What other Napoleonic Wars kino are out there?

there are several adaptations of war and peace but really you should just read the book

Everybody hates roaches. The fact that they gave you some beating now and then makes Russians a bit more sympathetic btw.

None that I know of but I can recommend several books if you're interested.

If you scatter against shooting the cavalry will cut you down.

Sure.

I don't recall it ever having a specific name, sorry.

Play Napoléon Total War and rectify it. I did that with Russia

Not even just cavalry. If a line marches up to you while you're plinking shots at them from wide apart positions and then they all fire at once at point blank range, your force gets shredded to bits. The only amount of firepower that can force a line of soldiers to stop advancing is another line. That's why the Caroleans were so feared, they would march up on you through any amount of casualties and then unload in your face at point blank.

I'd start with the biography of Napoleon by Andrew Roberts if you haven't read it, it is excellent.

The memoirs of the Baron de Marbot are a fascinating and first hand account of the Napoleonic wars and extremely entertaining to boot.

Is the best place to be in the army in this time period the artillery?

Depends on what you mean by "best place"

Maybe at first but long term not really due to the fact you will lose your hearing

SEE THE FEAR IN THEIR EYES CAROLEANS ARE MARCHING ON

Blücher out of nowhere

Thunderbolt on the flank.

Chess player, retard. As in the game of chess, with little pieces on a board.

Fucking moron.

muh mastermind defensive genius.

Sorry I totally misread your post. Coom brain.

I would have told him to shove it up his ass for being a redditor. If you didn't notice he a faggot, look at the reddit spacing.

It is worth watching for the set pieces. You wont see a film like this and how they made it, ever again.
