avoid a string of movies, too expensive and a limited target audience, aim for a mini series with an extended finale
stick to the tried and tested tv timeline with minor variations (incorporation from manga). avoid a complete "rebuilding" - teasing a repetition/loop mitebcool
co-produce with japan for locations, avoid a 100% western or 100% japanese cast
a focus on minatures/practical sets/old in camera tricks instead of pure cgi (mix gerry anderson with modern indie shooting styles)

realistically it shouldn't be touched but there's a very slim chance it could work out with the right autist director while streaming bux are still viable.

The world isn’t ready for what you’d actually need to do to make a good live action anime adaptation. You would have to cast people solely on how close they are to the character designs (that means mostly white) but without changing their canonical ethnicity.

You misunderstand. Shinji (or Kensuke or Toji as an example) are all canonically Japanese and have Japanese mannerisms and dispositions, yet, if you were to cast strictly on character design, you would have to cast white. So you’re stuck either making the character look weird or deviation from canon, his way would fix both problems, but get REEEEED into oblivion.
