It's been a while, I think I'm about due for my yearly trilogy rewatch. it's been 5-7 years since The Hobbit movies and I've still only seen them once, I really wish they had recaptured that magic.

The Hobbit trilogy was a mistake.
I went in with that in mind and the first movie left me actually hopeful.
And then the other two fucking abominations confirmed my worst fears. They should've done two movies max, and remove so many shit like Legolas, the love triangle, the Whit Orc character arc bullshit, and easily 40 minutes of ugly CGI battle.

The first movie was fun and suitably whimsical. It felt like a swashbuckling adventure.

And then they remembered how badly they want a new LoTR.

Nah I haven't, though if I ever got the urge to rewatch them I suppose that would be a good way to go.

The thing is, out of the three LOTR movies, first one was always my favourite and third one was always the one I considered to be the least well adapted, exactly because they spent too much time on the battle on Minas Tirith instead of showing us shit like Saruman in the Shire.
Jackson was getting a bit too heavy-handed on cheesy shit in his battle like Legolas soloing one fucking Oliphant as well, so I was glad he did not indulge in that shit further...and that's EXACTLY what he did in the Hobbit and what turned out to be fucking repelling.
He lacked someone to say "stop, this is shit, this is Star Wars Prequel fighting tier, this is not fit for the Tolkienverse."

Wes Anderson movies feel like a dollhouse on Mars, they give me more of an uncanny valley anxiety than anything. Except Bottle Rocket, that's a comfy one.

It wasn't just his money on the line. What I heard, if he hadn't stepped up after Del Toro left, the movie wouldn't be shot in New Zealand which Jackson is still patriotic about I presume.

Porco Rosso is supremely comfy and one of the few genuinely good Studio Ghibli films that has really stuck with me over the years. Good times.
