I hope you're watching subbed. Watch Dragon Ball Super for sure. The Toei movies are good but not canon. GT has its highs and lows, probably more lows, but Super 17, Baby and SSJ4 are cool. If you're watching English dub, SKIP GT 100%. Also by movies I assume you mean the first 13. If you watch Super, the new movies about Beerus, Freeza, and Broly are part of the series and canon. The DBZ movies like Bardock and Future Trunks are also canon and worthwhile.

Still the best single episode filler ever fucking made.

You know, in the Buu arc everyone always says Gohan got too arrogant and that's why Buu defeated him, but nobody recognizes that both Gohan and Piccolo told Trunks and Goten not to fuse.

GT was much better written, it had actual characters and story, not a bunch of memes and one-liners that lack any emotion or coherence. Goku in Super is a retarded manchild "hero" that goes through an absurdly rapid transformation between the arcs. In GT, Goku still acts like an adult with years upon years of battle experience and his relationship with his relatives, especially Pan, is natural and touching. In Super Goku, Vegeta, Gohan and Freezer are complete meme characters, nothing about them is remotely believable or human. And why doesn't anyone care about deaths anymore? Suddenly gods, even more godlike than all gods before can handily rewind time and even return characters from the dead? How fucking convenient. What a way to kill tension even further. GT had the balls to add serious consequences to the overuse of the titular deus ex machina, and not add more badly explained asspulls.

As for direction, Super is utterly incoherent, badly edited and full of logical problems. GT is a work of a group of people who genuinely had a point to make.

I feel neutral about the series overall, and honestly don't care about trolling or contrarianism. Here is my sincere ranking:

1. "Dragon Ball GT"
2. "Dragon Ball"
3. "Dragon Ball Z"

Super isn't even a Dragon Ball series. It's a Marvel flick masquerading as one.

Because he was like three different villains as he evolved, so there was variety. He was a threat and had powers beyond just having a stronger power level, who knew how they could actually destroy him. He could eat or absorb people, which meant those eaten were actually gone for a while, raising the stakes.
But I do think it goes on too long and then ends too abruptly.

I don't like it for the same reasons outlined here. I think Buu's constant transformations give him a major identity crisis that weaken his effectiveness as a villain overall. If Super Buu wasn't pushing it, Buutenks certainly was.

With that being said, the arc feels remarkably well planned and plays out very nicely up until a certain point after Vegeta dies. I rewatched it recently, and still replay a few episodes every now and again. Those parts are good. But I think when Babidi dies and Goku goes back to the afterlife it starts to drag tremendously.

I laugh everytime someone dissmisses GT. I laugh harder when someone says Super is better than GT. Super is garbage. It's barely Dragon Ball. It lacks vision, imagination and charm, completely alienating the true fans (and by true fans I don't mean the "lol im so nerdy guyz just like sheldon xD"). Super is a sterile product with artificial fun pandering to artificial nostalgia. It was made with one purpose: to make money. Toei made GT for the fans and the true fans enjoyed them. It's just the majority following trends and faling for the "lol GT is bad " meme. Breathtaking art style and animation for the time, fantastic fighting, a major expansion to the universe, excellent music, insight on our favourite characters and their actual development with a couple of great performances and a solid story are all strong points of GT that are hard to deny.

There are some aspects of the English dubs that are not so bad. I agree Mr. Satan's English voice is great and he is one of my favorite characters. I started off with the English dub (Ocean and later Funimation) from Radditz to Cell but finished with Japanese for the Otherworld Tournament to Buu and all of GT. The GT English intro is just so awful with the rap song and the voices are annoying like the actress for Pan. Sean Schemmel and Chris Sabat are talented though and they've improved lots as time went on. I particularly like Sabat's Vegeta early on with the stately almost British accent

Well, Buutenks was beating Gohan's ass wholesale for a while, that's why I wrote defeated.

For me it's Frieza but Cell's theme was the most based.

KAI TFC's soundtrack is really good, but SSJ3 Power Up really does hit different.

Cell is basically exactly the same with a different appearance like Frieza. Basically same brain. Buu is radically different in the different forms. And Fat Buu has more character and personality than Kid Buu lol
