Have you ever been to Scotland?

Unironically yes. And it was based.

I am Scottish and I’ve never so much as taken a sip of Irn Bru. It absolutely fucking disgusts me and I think it’s the biggest shame of the country. Irn Bru should be banned.

this
was there as a kid
it was very comfy, stayed at some castle hotel with parents

Why?
The Caledonian?

No I dont think that was it, it was in the countryside.

No, but I wish, seems like a comfy place

Oh. Please come back. Tourism is a big industry here.

Irn Bru is great.

Haha sure. I've been planning to go to Edinburgh again with a friend actually, before this whole corona thing.

I’m glad. Always wanted to visit Russia. I think we share a similar lifestyle of being glum and inebriated.

no, but was in shetland once, which is close.

That's applicable to most of Eastern Europe.

a few times
>to hang out with a friend going to uni there
>to meet up with a girl l met there
>for a court case

Yeah, twice. One time a trip through Edinburgh and the Highlands, one time a trip to Orkney. Liked it both times.

>was in shetland once
what for?

I really want to go someday yeah

ferry used to stop there on the way to/back from denmark.
was only a few hours

looks like pee

No. The Highlands look nice, but I'm more interested in history than empty landscapes and my home country (England) is far superior in that regard. I wouldn't mind visiting Orkney to see the Neolithic monuments, but that's not even really Scottish in my opinion

>No, but I wish, seems like a comfy place
It is if you avoid every town with a population greater than 5,000 because it will unironically be a fucking shithole otherwise (except for about three streets in Edinburgh)

>for a court case
Kek

Wrong. Lowland Scotland is teeming with history. You just have a problem with us.

i want to try irn bru

is scotland actually dope? should i visit?

>but that’s not even really Scottish in my opinion
I mean, sure, it was a hotspot for Pictish society and the Neolithics contributed greatly to the modern Scot’s genetic makeup, but go ahead and deny us our culture some more

Yes. Go to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Loch Lomond, and the Highlands. It’s best to visit in the midst of Summer or in Winter.

Go fuck yourself.
>muh nordic ancestry
Big larp. Doesn’t mean anything when so much Nordic genetics already came from Scotland and Ireland anyway.

I didn't say Scotland didn't have some interesting historical sites, just that it has far fewer of them than England and that they are - on average - a little less interesting

Orkney's really a thing apart from Scotland, whether you like it or not

Neolithic Britons as a whole barely contributed to modern Britons' genomes (approx. 10%) with our other 'Neolithic Farmer' ancestry coming from later migrations. It's irrelevant to my point anyway

People think they like it because they go there with lower expectations than England

The rural areas where nobody lives are nice if you like some sense of solitude, but the towns are pretty uninteresting. Edinburgh's nice enough, but Glasgow's a boring shithole

what's so great about england

Each to their own. I suppose you can’t appreciate the historical sites so much if it doesn’t have as much significance to the fabric of your own society.

Orkney is definitely and always will be Scottish. I don’t know how you could argue that a group of islands less than 10km from the mainland have less in common with it than some pillaging land 500km away. As I said, Orkney was a stronghold of Pictish activity - a uniquely Scottish civilisation. Also, Orkney being subjected to Viking raids and settlement means nothing. There is little lasting Norse effect on Orkney (or Shetland) save for some genetic background and a Norse-like culture that is already prevalent throughout all of Scotland. I wouldn’t call Iceland a Celtic land for them having a massive share of Gaelic ancestry - for they behave Norse. They speak Scots, or English, and they traditionally follow the Presbyterian church. You’re memeing at this point if you imply otherwise. It’s as ridiculous as calling Cornwall an extension of Wales rather than a part of England.
