Most people seriously shouldn't have cats, you're right. Farmers can have them because they kill rats and other vermin that destroy the crops. Otherwise you just own a bird killer for no reason.

I don't want to make wolves extinct but I think their numbers should be kept at a reasonable level.

We are, theres an idea here called 'rewilding' where we encourage it to go back to how it was before, reintroducing beavers and lynx and stuff. Quite difficult because of NIMBYs and tradition though
