Never understood why people learn Spanish when there are so many beautiful European languages with rich traditions and history. Guess people want to be "cool' and "progressive" learning a non-white language but even then they could learn Japanese at least be able to get good media out of it.

Spanish is incredibly useful in the US. It also makes sense as a general rule of thumb to learn the language of your neighboring countries.

I remember some cool black dude I met in Juárez. He said all Americans in the south should learn Spanish and all mexicans in the North should learn English.

It's a really good idea. My Spanish isn't perfect, but I would feel retarded if I never bothered to learn it, since I live in Los Angeles, and it's basically required to get a lot of jobs here. I also feel like it's unacceptable for educated people to speak only one language.
