Goku trained and learned from his loss or shortcoming. Vegeta only abused his zenkai and didn't learn a thing from it. Goku also had years of training prior to him and Vegeta meeting. Of course Goku's gonna exceed him, Vegeta is literally a decade plus behind Goku in terms of knowledge, experience and skill.
