I can see why you guys would avoid being linked with us, but Brazil and Portugal have a lot to do with each other.

Mid 20th century your countrymen fled there and sent money home. During Napolean your nobility fled there. You're pretty tied to them.

You speak our language, and that's pretty much it, we share nothing with you mate. Your country is independent from us for centuries, the populations that live in brazil came from 4 different continents that have nothing to do with the portuguese people.
Thomas Garcia
>Mid 20th century your countrymen fled there and sent money home.
This is non-sense. Portuguese emigration to the americas in the xx century was small. The majority went to France. If you had said in the xix century, then maybe, but not after that.
Christian Collins
Are you proud of all the post-Soviet Union states?

You can't possibly be that gullible. The entire basis of Brazil as a concept is rooted around Portuguese culture. Brazil would be a totally different country if another country had colonized this territory.

No portuguese culture exist in brazil. You speak portuguese and nothing more.
Tell us what samba or forró has anything to do with Portugal or portuguese culture, it's even hilarious to debate that. I say the same for angola or mozambique or any other colony we had. What has kuduro to do with Portugal, nothing.

Portugal and Spain were basically the worst countries in Europe in terms of colonization. You can compare the founding fathers of the USA with the Portuguese "Elite" who settled in Brazil. Even the wealthy and noble Portuguese who came here did not even know how to read and write correctly. Throughout the 19th century, when the whole world was beginning to industrialize and create new technologies, the descendants of the "Portuguese barons" still concentrated all of the country's wealth and workforce on sugar cane farms that looked more like feuds from the Middle Ages. . These same "barons" were not much more educated than most of their slaves. You can also compare England, Germany, France and Russia in terms of art and science with the Iberian peninsula and the difference is absurd.
You can see the difference in a single topic: literary translations. While England has been producing translations of various classics of world literature since the 15th century, Portugal had barely begun to expand translations beyond Latin and Greek in the 19th century. Today, in the 21st century, even Brazil (that is, the colony) is far superior in this cultural field. You will find the same pattern repeating itself in physics, chemistry, biology, philosophy, music, literature, etc., etc., etc., when comparing Portugal with England.
They are proud of us and we are not proud of them. These are two mediocre countries, with few exceptions.
For me the only strong point is that I like Latin women, and Portuguese women, with dark hair and easily tanned skin, combined very well with the country's indigenous and African influences.

Of course portuguse culture doesn't exist in Brazil, but brazilian culture is extremely influenced by Portugal just as it was influenced by the natives, africans and etc. I get that you wouldn't want your country to be associated with brazil, but arguing that Brazil has NOTHING to do with Portugal is just delusional.
