Just build your entire economy around oil. What could possibly go wrong?

h-haha. imagine your economy relies on oil...

Putin will fix this I'm sure

Easy: Just replace 70% of exports with something else

Nothing will happen to Norway, they got too much generational wealth, like their country's borders have been consistent for a thousand years and were spared the worst wars.
Check your ultra white privilege

It's as good of an export product as anything else. What you do with the money you get in return is what matters.
Norway is probably the best example. They have used up the wealth generated from oil export to build an economy able to sustain itself once it eventually becomes unprofitable to drill it anymore

Holy shit

I think Norway has policies that mitigate the resource curse.

I feel sorry for the UAE. They tried hard to diversify their economy and decided to rely on a tourism. But oil became cheaper than water and tourism sphere is fucked

Imagine being this incompetent at economics. We're a country that had a population of 5M when this export tree map was made in 2012. We had a labour force of 2.8M people and exported mineral (petroleum) products worth $95.2B. How exactly do you suggest that we make our tree map not completely dominated by this statistic when countries with similar population sizes like Denmark, Finland and New Zealand's entire exports (mineral products excluded) that year were $92B, $64.6B and $38.3B. Take a moment to think how these countries' exports tree maps would have shifted if we handed that $95.2B petroleum revenue over to them today and you realize how retarded it is to use this chart as some proof that Norway's economy has no skilled human capital. It's ranked as the 21st most complex economy in the world according to the observatory of economic complexity (OEC) despite having the luxury of being able to live entirely off petroleum goods in theory.

>oil
*blocks your economy*
