People are gonna study China in the future. It's rare to see a rising power rapidly kill its reputation and relationships in literally a year span. At least when Japan failed as a superpower it was due to legit reasons (economic bubble burst).

Japan never had the resources and manpower to become a superpower, plus America wouldn't allow it as shown by its trade war with Japan in the 80s.
