Why so many countries the poor eat unhealthy fried or fast food garbage? Isn't it just cheaper to buy cheap vegetables and cook them all together?

Back when my family was poor, it was beans & rice, chicken soup, and sometimes McDonald's.

it's also more time consuming and they're short term minded as well, they just want an immediate reward, like cavemen thinking they're gonna starve for days if they don't eat something high caloric now

as a member of the lower class lots of grain bowls with rice, quinoa, and millet; spinach, collards, kale, carrots, peas, onion, lemon; lots of chickpeas; canned soups; potatoes; homemade pizza and french bread; lots of banana bread; and coffee.

I also grow a lot of fruit in my yard currently I've got: tomatoes, bananas, loquats, hibiscus, coconut, pineapple, grapefruit, and starfruit.

Given I would like to add I live below the poverty line using less than 10$ per day but I usually only spend 50$ on food a week and the rest goes to rent, utilities, and other necessities.

most poor Americans just accrue debt but I'm currently making savings luckily so I can beat my situation, given I'm only able to save 100$ every 2 weeks but it's something.

Over processed "convenience food". Fast food is too expensive here for every day food for poor people.

Most unhealthy people in Brazil are in the middle class because they can afford paying for sweets, candies, fast food, etc but at the same time don't value health and are brainwashed by commercials
