IMO Russia could never industrialize without an authoritarian government.

Mainly because abolition of serfdom in Russia was a shitty half measure, the boyars crippled any reform that Witte or Stolypin tried to begin. There was no way to industrialize when the ruling class is 100% dependant on peasants staying illiterate peasants using hand-powered tools while the Americans and Canadians fully mechanized their farms already.

If Kolchak or some other leader managed to grabthe reins from the Bolsheviks and SR’s, they’d be in arguably a worse position since they’d not be able to say “lol fuck u” when France demanded repaying debts. Likewise, all the profits would be focused into French pockets. Light industry would have been focused upon, leaving Russia super vulnerable to Hitler.
