In the narrowest official sense, yes. In practice, no. The US has not been perceived in this way since the Civil War. The American identity superseded state identity many, many, many generations ago.

m8, there's more inter-state diversity in Mexico and India than there is in the United States. Yeah, there are appreciable differences in regional cuisine and geography, but there is, nevertheless, a widely found, easily identifiable American ethos.
