Our rail network is good but not impressive. Netherlands is a small flat country with a lot of urbanisation so it isn't too hard to build a rail network here.

I disagree. Big woop, you built a five foot wide tunnel with a single staircase straight down. New York's stations and infrastructure were far more impressive for the time.
