Do Americans living in those square feel proud or connection to their states? It seems like they were only created by the bureaucracy to manage empty land.
Do Americans living in those square feel proud or connection to their states...
If the state was a triangle would it make people feel any more connection to it?
Maybe if the state was shapped by cultural or geographic reasons. My state was an old Mesoamerican kigdom for example.
Dividing states by longitude and latitude is a rational way to subdivide states. Especially if it’s a virtual uninhabited wilderness.
this
but how do people then feel patriotic about their state
>French
Didn't the French divide up their departments into squares furing the revolution because it was 'rational' even though it along with all the other laws were just as baseless and arbitrary as the traditional laws, except thousands of people died
I only care about my state. Idgaf about the other states
its perfect for the americans living in soulless suburbs leading unreflective lives
idk ask them
Football teams usually.
Wyoming has a cowboy culture that dates back to when they were a part of the Republic of Texas. Colorado has numerous ski towns and is known for beautiful landscapes. There are plenty of states with little to no identity but I don't think the 2 rectangular ones are good examples.
>It seems like they were only created by the bureaucracy to manage empty land
It was
They probably feel more proud of living in the Rockies than they do of living in Wyoming
2 ways I think
People living on state borders: fuck the guys on that side of the line
People in the middle of the state: I like this area where I live
Yeah but we had 1000 years of property transactions most of which took place before there was a standardized system of measuring and surveying land. So you end up with criss crossing and zig zagging propert lines, enclaves, enclaves, etc. You guys started with a clean slate so it makes sense to make everything squares.
rare
Football teams divide more states than they unite
I guess, but different cities feel patriotic about their state's "best" team.
Militaryfags aren't rare
Why do you all seem to think that what a place looks like on a map matters to the place’s identity
Such as yourself?
texas should have its old borders back desu
Im from guam dipshit
My flag only changes when I turn on my data
Yikes
All of the ones with three straight lines or more are just as bad, they don't need to be an actual square
Wtf would you have them be then
Some people really base a strong component of their identity on which box you were born in here. It makes no sense.
Did it actually control that random corridor in the northwest?
Follow mountain ranges, rivers and native people traditional borders.
The whole US is made out of squares.
No, only about a quarter of that map is where the government exercised control, along the river valleys in the east. The rest was disputed territory inhabited by Indians and some Spanish speakers
I'm surprised we still control Guam and NMI in 2020. These territory deals are fucking ancient.
>3rd East Street, suburb 4, square 12 county, Square 4 state, USA.
Souless as phuck
So you want whites to LARP?
