Macri was the president of the biggest football club in argentina and an n'drangheta member.
CFK was just a lifelong peronist.

It's obviously worse than having a normal economy but a lot of people benefit from it one way or another, only the lowest of the low get badly damaged by it and only when big crisis happen.
It simply cannot be changed because in order to be in a position of power you have to enter that game, you cannot fathom how absurdly corrupt that country is.

but there is smaller and shittier countries in latam that are just as corrupt, yet don't' default every 20 years or so. The central american countries haven't defaulted since like the region wide debt crisis in the 80s. argentina defaults like every decade tho.

Most people in Argentina work for the state or benefit from gibs and such.
They cannot lower public spending because it's unpopular and most people depend on it, so they never lower taxes.
So they can only borrow or raise taxes. They raise taxes often but that only goes so far, especially when you take into account how fucked companies get by bureaucracy and corruption.
So they just borrow, and for some reason the IMF just gives them money despite being obvious that they are not going to pay.
