To the non-native english speakers in this thread, what prompted you to learn English? How did you do it?
I did Duolingo for 6 months before I studied in Italy. Thought it would help
It didn't
Immersion is very important, if you spend a lot of time reading news, listening to radio/podcasts and watching videos you will improve much faster than by just spamming anki, duolingo or whatever you're using
sounds like you just suck at retaining information
nothing really
I learned English in primary school by looking at memes and watching cringy youtube videos
some are good to live and have good level of french like tunisia or gabon
What's there to cope with, retard? I've lived abroad, the fact that you're surrounded by the language isn't as effective as having a private tutor. Otherwise China wouldn't be full of laowai that have no knowledge of Chinese.
can you speak it fairly well, or mainly just read/write?
Can't learn the difference between -ere verbs and -ire verbs if the program doesn't even mention conjugations
You aren't supposed to learn from Duolingo. You use it to practice.
what he said, i learned all my grammar from french textbooks. i use duolingo for rapidly learning new words and sentences and lurking in /fr/
Immersion means either living in the country (or participating in a camp where only the target language is used) or using the target language as medium of instruction. Reading/listening your target language is indeed very important but that's not what immersion is.
I know, the only reason I continued after the first 3 weeks or so was to beat brown people on the leaderboard
hard to say
I speak English maybe like 2 times a year so it's very rusty
Each time I struggle at first but after I warm up it's better. I'd probably have to live abroad to improve it significantly and become fluent, preferably in some anglo country to try to lose this hideous accent and pick up a better one
me. im in diamond league rn. i keep topping some abuelita learning english
>get a job
'no'
>lurking in /fr/

sometimes i like talking to them but when theres a 50/50 chance of the entire thread being anime posting and one line posts its fucking garbage
I make people in /ita/ help me with my Italian homework
Books, videogames and internet forums. These language-learning apps are a meme.
