Why, does Poland not have that?
that's not the case where you are?
Apart from one region - no, our language is standarized and everyone speaks the same way.
Be happy, this way you don't have to deal with stuff like east German, Swabian, or middle Franconian.
Dialects are fucking cringe
I think it is cool actually if there are strong regional identites in the country.
Must be weird. Dialects are so strong here that I just need a few words from a person to know where he/she is from.
We kind of have that but accents are weakened with the younger generation
For instance my Southern accent is very weak
That's pretty weird if true.
American English is "standardized" but there's still regional dialects.
As far as I know German is like this too, everyone can speak/understand Hochdeutsch but they also have their regional variants.
Only old people from rural areas have regional 'accents', young people don't because it's just a shame to speak with an accent and it's looked down upon especially at school where you're expected to speak standard Polish without any accent. I'd say people born after 1960 don't have any accent here except for Silesia.
I'm from deep in Härjedalen. Most people in Sweden thinks I'm speaking Norwegian...
I find that my accent is largely dependent on the situation I'm in.
I was born and raised in Georgia but if I'm in an interview in Seattle for example I will speak in typical standard American "news person" neutral accent with completely proper grammar.
But if I'm with friends back home I will sound like an absolute hick and use double negatives all over the place.
Can totally turn it on or off as context dictates.
Yes, it would be cool if we had that.
Now the only way to distinguish between people from different regions here is to look at registration plates of their cars.
>why yes i can understand the variation of the dialect of some different neighborhood of my own city
Russian doesn't really have accents either
In the South I usually don't think I have an accent, but when I leave the South most people say I have a weak one
midsommar
Gypsy accent based. They sound the same what ever part of the country they're from
>tfw you'll never have a strong southern american accent indicative of your deep south upbringing
Funnily enough, have not seen that movie.
But I do look forward to Midsommar. Both the food, the booze and the traditions. Best time of the year.
>people in Sweden thinks I'm speaking Norwegian
That's because you sound like it for fucks sake.

Like.. the fuck is that?
But I do live in such a country
non-country
Accents in my country are so strong you wouldn't believe.
l remember being mocked a lot by my classmates back in highschool because l used to pronounce certain words a little off, and l lived like 20 minutes away from them.
lt wasn't even a city/countryside accent difference either, we all used to live in a fairly rural area
because you have different languages for that
based
Brother.
one of the few good things about this country
The reason why Poland has no dialects is that half of Poland wasn't inhabited by poles 70 years ago. That half of the country literally has no dialects to begin with, since they were settled after the creation of the radio, television etc.
this, i find it charming
In my grandparents generation you could guess which village the people where from by the way they talk
Swedish and Norwegian is practically the same language anyway
I live in a country like that. there are well over 10 distinct dialects here which locals can easily tell apart from each other
Don't tell that to the people in Stockholm. They'll get upset.
Really?? Why?
Being able to tell what region someone is from is pretty normal in Slovene but some people with a good ear can really narrow down where you are from by listening to your dialect down to the village, it's crazy.
The answer is Rikssvenska. The most horrible, flat and nasal dialect in this country. The dialect of the eternal Stockholmare..
I come from Östergötland so it would be a very bad idea to speak in dialect.
Same, let's just say I toned it down after moving regions
>The answer is Rikssvenska. The most horrible, flat and nasal dialect in this country. The dialect of the eternal Stockholmare..
It isn't even proper rikssvenska. They don't speak in a way that makes them sound like they could be from anywere, they sound distinctly Stockholmska. My syssling from Lidingö told us on a family dinner that he doesn't have any dialect. In his nasal Lidingö accent of course.
I'm pretty sure he was joking, either way we all laughed at him.
Coward.
Partially true, but even in historical Polish regions dialects are almost non existent
For me it's Närpes dialect, but sadly I've been influenced by Helsingfors too much my childhood friends have noticed it
Motala here, I speak in dialect and I will never stop.
And I'm not ashamed.
As long as it isn't Peking, that shit is horrible
Feels bad
