You know how Australia as colonised by violent Englishmen who believed everyone else were inferior and didn't deserve equal rights? Those attitudes have been passed down for generations and still remain to this day.
Our largest wave of immigrants also happened to be "ten pound poms", that moved here a few generations back under the pretense that they were wanted to populate the country as ideal people. Note that I said poms and even other Western Europeans. Other people that migrated without these incentives during this time snd even earlier from outside of the UK were largely viewed as foreign outsiders. This mass UK based wave of immigration only further enforced the aforementioned colonial racism into the general metanarrative of what makes Australia, Australia.
During the Cronulla riots, which may have been named after the "battleground" in Cronulla, it wasn't just "lebs" who were sought out and attacked by bogans, it was basically anyone who looked like a "wog", "indian/paki", or "asian".
A kid I went to school with at the time was hospitalised after being attacked by a group on his way home from school. He was 15, had Italian grandparents and we lived in a suburb around two hours south of Cronulla. He was bashed for being a "leb cunt". Text messages were being sent around to people to "defend Australia from foreign invaders". Yeah, that's how fucking retarded the racist culture is in Australia.
