It's just a ranking of which countries suck American dick. You can censor Russian and Chinese sources as much as you like and it won't affect your rating. Pro-Russian or pro-Chinese countries will always get ranked low no matter what.

You would think American journalist are the most oppressed people in the world the way they frame shit.

Yle has been a state founded propaganda arm of the left ever since at the end of WWII Stalin demanded that it should be filled with communists.

Sipilä cuts funding to state media and our leftists run off to these American leftists who write the "freedom of speech rankings", boohoo, FREEDOM OF SPEECH PROBLEM when literally state funded leftist media just got a funding cut.

Again, what this measures is "countries where the media is aligned with the Western left". It has nothing at all to do actual freedom of speech and FInland is a good example.

State media monopolies count as pluses for "freedom of speech" if they're filled with Western leftist propaganda, minuses if not. Russian media can be banned and it's just a plus for "freedom of speech" because Russians aren't on board with the agenda so Russian opinions are a danger to freedom.

There's also the ideological alignment. Japan is kind of just subjugated whereas Finland & Scandinavia have converted themselves to semi-totalitarian followers of the American left.
