South tends be better than the north on most metrics. We have had many separatist movements such as the khalistan movement, naxal movement, Kashmir and some parts of the north east. Many of these especially the older ones were supported by the Cia, Pakistan and China. Nowadays Kashmir is the only prominent movement but its not the valley Muslims who chimp out, the other regions in Kashmir are pro-india
