Zagreb is only ""rich"" because they take all our state tax money. Zagreb used to be a good city until the early 20. century but now it's the garbage capital of eu and rightfully so.
Austrians mostly. Italians had the most cultural impact on the west side of istra and Fiume. These two counties were also fortunate enough to be far enough from Serbia and Bosnia.

Yeah. Worst part is that if you visit Croatian Wikipedia, nationalist cope memes are presented as facts. It's not as bad as Macedonian wikipedia, but almost. Those articles that are about the "Croatian" language are the worst. Just endless coping and pretending that Standard Croatian isn't closer to Standard Serbian than it is to practically any dialect spoken in Croatia.

The real and authentic name is Reka. Rijeka is how someone from Bosnia would call it. Due to unfortunate circumstances however, mispronouncing it like that became the "right" and "standard" way of referring to the city.

It's not just Croats though. Other Slavs also have their own Iranian (by Iranian I don't mean Iran) theories. There are so many of them that there has to be some grain of truth in those theories

Honestly I hated Rijeka because it's a shithole and I thought Zagreb was richer by default and prettier along with Split but it tunrs out Zagreb is a simmilar shitole that can't even make their own money and Split is something like Africa with a pretty med coast. After the earthquake in Zagreb and now the virus sucking Dalmatia dry of tourists Rijeka will probably again be the best city in Croatia unless the supreme overlord of Zagreb decides that all money from west Croatia goes directly into fixing Zagreb.
