Do americans have culture or not, i always see a bunch of europeans mocking them for not having an identity

It's extremely localized, the bigger cities tend to be poor at conveying American culture because they've been steadily engineered over the past century to be models for globalized environments.
and what makes rural american areas unique
They call themselves german
no they don't, eating french fries into a glass of coke isn't culture.
americulture is not culture
at least the americans gave us the internet
Truth is not always important when you try to mock someone
Americans have culture, Canadians don't
Eh, local places, states or cities, have their own cultures, but nothing uniquely American.
Yes, Americans do have culture. Does Mexico have culture? If so. Then yes the USA has culture
Yes. A massive, vibrant and varied family of cultures whose combined global influence is so ubiquitous that it’s practically unnoticeable if you’re not looking for it.
only culture usa has is black culture
well we've culturally dominated the world since the 20s
why do you think everyone speaks english?
They love OIL
only after the 90's when the soviets collapsed
They tend to hold on to quirks of regional culture better and maintain a spirit that can be distinctively called "American"-- huge reliance on self-sufficiency, manual labor, decentralized living, woodsmanship, animal husbandry, etc.
Actually if any rural folk are calling themselves anything it's Scots-Irish. Germans seemed pretty eager to integrate with anglo-american society.
There are a remnant of German speakers in Texas who speak a really old dialect of German, they're not Amish either just regular folks.
In Louisiana there are still some French who speak french, but that's about the extent of those who hold to cultural quirks outside of WASP influence.
>There are a remnant of German speakers in Texas who speak a really old dialect of German, they're not Amish either just regular folks.
I worked with the Texas German Dialect Project as an undergrad at the University of Texas. I translated recorded interviews with speakers and conducted them fully in German myself on trips to Fredericksburg. AMA
I bet most of us only speak english due to our interest in japanese culture that was translated to english for your shekels.
>CAPCOM (japanese)
>MMORPGs (some korean, some japanese)
>Konami
>Nintendo
DESU now that I think about it, the only two american things I really enjoyed didn't require me to know the language (Doom and Counter-Strike).
They used old expressions from like the 1800s and shit didn't they? I've heard that the Texas Germans who go to Germany get laughs out of people there because they sound old fashioned sometimes.
>In Louisiana there are still some French who speak french,
where do they speak it, new orleans or some tiny villages
Probably backwater, hillbilly types, they call themselves Cajuns. They're swamp frogs.
Yeah some of it is very archaic and we had a running list of 19-century German words they still used. One example I remember was an old man telling me about an old friend of his who moved to Fredericksburg from Germany after WWII. They once got into a very heated argument about how to say “straight” in German - the native German using “gerade” and the Texas German using something that sounded like “streich.” The native got very pissed/coped hard after getting shown it used to be a proper German word
To add: I have dozens of stories about speakers going to Germany
The US is a federation, composed of many many countries. You'd expect from someone like them to have a really varied regional culture like germans do.
However, all you hear about the US is some monkey shaped old dude talking about war, sanctions and terrorism. All you see from the US is their flag, old farts in suits and a crowded picture of New York, and the way they look is no different from pretentious fags from your city.
Thus The US has no culture. The entirety of their people don't give a fuck about their state or their city, not even their family. To the American there exists nothing around him but himself and the Flag which is the Icon of a non - existing god.
I've had that happen with Germans on Yas Forums when talking about German loanwords in Slovene since they all originate in old forms of High German and the original words often fell out of use in German. Also, you have to keep in mind that people in different parts of the German language area (ESPECIALLY Low vs High German speaking areas) can use vastly different vocabulary.
France and England the only Euro country with culture
This
because of the british empire
and Italy
You misspeled Russia and Italy
Okay the final list of European countries that have cultures is:
1. France
2. England
3. Italy
4. Russia
This is the definitive list. No more additions.
Tres bien.
Rural areas. There are some French speakers in northern Maine too.
>Also, you have to keep in mind that people in different parts of the German language area (ESPECIALLY Low vs High German speaking areas) can use vastly different vocabulary.
This is what made the dialect difficult to analyze etymologically. Most of the immigration happened when dialectical differences were a lot more pronounced and Hochdeutsch was barely a real spoken language (I think), and the records tracing different immigrant communities back to their respective regions in Germany are too vague, general or nonexistent altogether. Thus you get a very bizarre and unique mix of dialectical features from archaic variants of German without being able to properly identify the “input dialect.” You can make some educated guesses with etymological sleuthing but they’re still educated guesses
Read Hans Boas’s published work on this if you’re interested in learning more
>no germany
that's right
Yes
your country has been germanized
your country got raped by them twice
correct
your country got ruled by a german aristocracy, and later adopted a german ideology
probably in small towns, but they are so retarded as a whole that is hard to guess, I mean, look at the covid19 spread, that is literally because nobody gives a fuck about eachother, no sense of community, hence no culture
We had culture. What is French culture now?
*drops a cheeky ton of incendiaries on Dresden*
And nothing of cultural significance was lost.
Maple syrup doesn't count.
Coronavirus is almost exclusively restricted to spreading in niggerfied cities lol
American "culture" is just mindless consumerist coporatism. Couple that to their cookie cutter suburban sprawl, built and designed at the altar of oil and car industry, and you have yourself your fat, sedentary and mostly ignorant regular american.
explain NY
Neither of your points are factual nor relevant. If anything Germany has been anglicized and Fracofied. And if you want to compare military wins and losses between Germany and France, Germany is going to lose.
New York City? The amount of cases are even determined by their proximity to NYC because of the rich people that fled from the city to their vacation homes first chance they got.
>streich
interesting. Sounds like the original meaning is preserved in the English "strike" as in hitting forward. Streich now means "prank" in German, which is old-fashioned already, since kids call it prank now, seeing most of them on the internet.
black ''culture''
Similar to us, it came because a couple of medics came from spain (they visited italy prior), and in the middle of this pandemic they visited family and friends, a little 4 yo kid (nephew) went to pre school ( a fancy one) and got everyone infected, from there the people working with those families got infected, travelled and so on
However, we don't have the numbers that you people have, and Santiago is an 8 million people city, crowded af
Cities can never represent American culture unless your idea of American culture is that of Hollywood's representation of America, which is never accurate in the first place. Too globalized, and only represents a fraction of the actual country, a large fraction of which is muddied up by foreigners holding on to their home cultures.
American culture is that of the blue collared family, BBQ with the neighbors and friends, sizable houses, baseball caps, going hunting, owning firearms, protecting your lot, and deep rooted patriotism and nationalism.
The best form of media that I think represents true American culture would be Country/rock like youtube.com
That was well over a year ago now so I can’t remember precisely what it was. After I made the post I remembered it being more like “strick” or “strich.” I made a note of it during the interview but one the grad students/professors would have done the proper linguistic analysis for it afterwards. I wasn’t much involved in that process
Why does everyone pretend that America doesn’t have culture? Every country has culture, the question is whether it’s good. And it’s not
lafayette and sometimes i run into french in new orleans
most of the very south has some french
it used to be pretty prevalent before americans banned french in like the 1930s
Most non-Americans are more culturally American than their native culture. Especially Euros and Especially nordics and French.
>Broadly defined, [feudalism] was a way of structuring society around relationships that were derived from the holding of land on exchange for service or labor.
this is american culture
superheroes and don't fall for the muh heritage faggots not a damn one of them is anymore unique than the other plain ass white americans. They're all just desperate to cling to europe. You meet a "polish american" and he's just as fucking shit and amerimutt acting as the "german american" or "anglo american". None of them have culture. All boring sacks clinging to some sense of meaning.
America is B-I-G. Eurolets act like every 5 sq km country eating some slightly different food coupled with a picture of an old building is culture but then view the US culture as a single country. America literally has more culture than Europe. Do you think Alaskan culture is anything like the culture of New York? But ya the cultural differences between germany and austria or sweden and norway is soo different. Don't even bring up the "3 million of us speak some slight variation of some other language 4 million people speak" argument it's fucking pathetic
Based cletus
mad lol
Feudalism was based, don't you dare compare it to American culture because of one specific example.
Not really, desu. Imagine the extent to which you are Aztec - is your way of life Aztec? Do you see the world as Aztec, speak their language? No, it’s Spanish, Catholic, Western and the Aztec is gone. Likewise Americans all have the names of their ancestors but it’s plowed over by English, consumerism and - a high work ethic, ideally.
It’s a good country with good people but I can tell you that I’m going insane from the lack of deeply rooted culture. Short answer, again, is: America is cultured in the same way that Aztecs would consider you to be part of their world
American isn't country, it's a big corporation. So they don't have culture in classic meaning, but they have corporative culture.
Based. Its a rich mans playground
sure, there used to be a point to all this.
then it got delegated to white nationalist groups.
Imagine you marrying a German woman, having 3 kids, sending them to a Spanish speaking school and in a city of only Spanish Speakers. After just one generation these Russian-German kids would have few choices, because humans need grounding to be healthy of mind. Either: consumerism, exercise, drugs, religion, or pride in their new Spanish-speaking identity. Choose one or more, that’s your culture in a pelting mot like America
they are like northern Europeans but manlier and louder and endearingly sincere.
true canadians are like rural Americans but more british and French. a little more ironic in their humor, a little quieter. but still hairy, robust outdoorsmen who fish and ladies who cook and lift heavy things.
