What's with these countries not adopting Laitn script?
Is it impossible for the language to function without using latin letters or are they resisting out of foolish arrogance?

Technical improvement and the constant autism within the West. Back in the 90s and 2000s, it came primarily from pro-Western enthusiasts and business circles, as well as from users of mobiles and stuff, since Latin alphabet was the default.
At least in the case of Montenegro, the introduction done by the governmental fucks is done quite terribly, with the result of the Cyrillic supporters finding themselves within the side of the Serbophile opposition. Same with some Austrian professor angering the Bulgarians with his insistence of pushing for Latin, with the end-result of fucking everything up (forgot his name, will post it if I'll find him). Not like they don't have any experience though, Banat Bulgarian was/is a thing after all.

Got his name: Otto Kronsteiner, a Austrian professor doing Bulgarian studies.
He claimed that Cyrillic reminds Euros (and Americans?) constantly of USSR, Russia and communism, and therefore has to go, especially when Balkan cunts join the EU.

>dude just change your language you have been using for a millennium so weak ass dipshit westerners don't feel themselves offended and mentally raped by seeing da russians dude

>change your language
Well, in his defence, he didn't say to dump the complete language though. YET, at least.
Don't get me wrong here, I don't care about meddling within other countries businesses even though I loathe all the Russophiles on this Khmer cartoon-board, but the way things are done and said by the script change enablers is too dumb, to say the least.
The massive shitfest within Central Asia when it comes to that should be a case of how things shouldn't been done (Nazarbayev going on about muh Qazaq-yeli or Uzbeks fucking Kyrgyz, Tajiks or Uyghurs in the ass, because they want to change their script on national level to Latin while not providing enough resources for their minorities respective languages).

For someone doing Bulgarian studies, he seems to have somehow missed the fact that the Cyrillic script is from Bulgaria.

iirc, he claimed that it actually does NOT come from there. Hence they have no reason to hold on on it. Not my words, his. Sofia got quite mad after hearing this, obviously.

See quote:
>According to the author, it was time for the Bulgarians to say goodbye to several
myths: that the Russians are their liberators, that the Russians acknowledge the
Bulgarian authorship of the Cyrillic alphabet and that the Cyrillic alphabet itself was
invented by Cyril.
Haven't read the original text from him, as I cannot speak Bulgarian, but we.

>Cyrillic alphabet itself was invented by Cyril
Well, he should be correct with that one, iirc, because the alphabet is named after Cyril, not created by him. The script Cyril and Methodius created is called Glagolitic.
Doesn't mean Cyrillic is not from Bulgaria though, script was created in the Bulgarian empire.
Plus, he kinda has to present his argument to make it so that Bulgaria would gain something from the change to Latin script. Why else would they do it after all.

It was more or less summed up with " to become a true EUropean", so basically not linguistic but on purely political grounds, afaik. Not sure if the Croats f.e. are true Evropeans according to him, while Serbs are not.

>imagine not having an alphabet for your language so you just use what the italians created
peak non countriness

honestly using both Cyrillic and latin is as based as it gets

Greek alphabet is basically modified Latin. Cyrillic is doable but obnoxious. Armenian and Georgian might as well be chinese moon runes.

Might as well push for everyone to start using the same language then. Bulgarian being in the Latin script won't do you much good if you can't understand it.

Serbs can read/use both, but yeah the official script should be Cyrillic. Theirs is done really well where it corresponds to pronunciation and to the Latin script version 1:1.
They basically eliminated everything they didn't need from the orthography, so soft signs and the softening vowels are gone, and they just took J from Latin to avoid having to use я, ю etc.

>be me in high school
>have to prepare for history exam
>"fuck what to do"
>learn+practise cyrillic for 2 days
>write cheats on my desk before exam
>yfw nobody but me knows how to read them
>yfw pass exams one by one with same strategy

thank you pyccia

Russian runes is indeed better for most slavic languages
Don't know about meme alphabets like georgian though

>Might as well push for everyone to start using the same language then. Bulgarian being in the Latin script won't do you much good if you can't understand it.
Yeah true. Its actually quite funny, how he opposes it on "anti-communist" grounds, but turns around and uses the same arguments Papa Stalin used when cyrillicizing all the languages within the USSR (with the exception of Balts, Armenian, Georgian and Karelo-Finnish) back in the late 30s.

I understand why unifying writing systems is seen as a plus by some circles, but would honestly rather prefer to use a pragmatic script and not simply use the dominant one right now. Otherwise it will cause a mess like in post-independence Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan or Uzbekistan.

there were already plans within the ottoman empire to switch to a different alphabet long before ataturk """forced""" latin. Enver pasha created a whole different alphabet just for that. Ottoman empire also printed in both french and turkish to accommodate people to latin before.
the arabic script really did limit any attempts to write in turkish and literacy rates skyrocketed after the new script was introduced. Turkish is a vowel heavy language and there are like only 3 vowels in arabic script.

cringe as fuck,
Good god, it's a romance language.

more retarded thing about arabic is that they don't actually use the vowels. they only use them when they're "long-vowels", so you can't technically learn arabic script and read it without "harakah"

reckon we should all use the greek alphabet

this statement only makes any sense from a latin-centric viewpoint.
latin and cyrillic are both descendants of greek, which in turn developed from phoenician and egyptian scripts.
armenian and georgian aren't like chinese characters in any sense, they are fully functional alphabets.

>Greek alphabet is basically modified Latin

Most diabetics per capita. Our carb and fat heavy diet is to blame.
When I worked in an amerindian ragtag pos town I heard about people that ate up to 8 20cm diameter tortillas with each meal.
Meal themselves were mostly rice, 500cc coke, beans and a miniscule amount of proteins.
