Japan developed another writing system to supplement Chinese, no? And China simplified its own alphabet to boost literacy. Also in both countries the new alphabet were developed by the gentry to suit their spoken language, Japan is the same. Fact of the matter is our vernacular language is different from Chinese so why make it hard on ourselves and conform to an unsuitable system
