Bangladesh has reduced it's fertility rate to below replacement rate under 4 decades after it's independence. They are aware of their problem, and did this despite losing a whole generation of educated people in bangladesh genocide. The only thing I know about it was from some documentary I once saw where this dude about my age was working in heavy industry without appropriate protective equipment and having to feed his sick mother and young sister. If he missed a day at work his family would not eat, and if he got injured and couldn't work they would starve. His only dream in life was to last long enough so the sister could finish school and get married so that she could maybe have a better life. Poverty is pretty fucked up and Bangladesh seems to be chock full of it.
