The choices in my school was

1. Advanced English
2. Japanese
3. Italian
4. Spanish
5. French
6. Russian
7. German

I picked Russian at first but then we were told that a study trip would be included to said countries in 9th grade so I quickly swapped to Italian so I could go there instead. Spent a week with my classmates, chilling on the beach.

My first high school only offered Spanish, French and Italian. I moved and my second high school offered the aforementioned three along with German and Portuguese.

English
Swedish(mandatory in FInland. Fuck you, sweden)
German(voluntary)

Fuck me if I remember ANYTHING from last two.

Why don’t Portuguese speakers study Spanish?

In my 3rd grade of elementary the government started the implementation of English classes in the public school system. I learned basic grammar and shit like that.
If I would've sticked with the shit they teached me in school I honestly wouldn't be able to post here.
Sometimes my grammar may seem broke but my speaking and listening skills are peak. I learned by watching westerns movies.

>1. Advanced English
Regular English is mandatory ?

english

>Regular English is mandatory ?
Yup. If you fail English you fail everything. Literally. It's one of the three majors, English, Math and Swedish. Fail any of those and your other grades don't matter anymore.

No point unless you're lazy? I studied spanish in school for two semesters, because I am lazy. Just slept the entire class, never did homework, and still passed both with an A

I took japanese in high school
my school also had spanish, french, latin, and german.

German and English. Actually I've studied German much more than English and even won regional language contests and passed German exam to enter university but then I virtually forgot it because of total lack of utilization.

They only offered Spanish, French, and Mandarin when I was in high school.

In elementary school I studied English. I was part of the "advanced" group that had 5 classes a week instead of just 3.
In high school I studied German. The first year I only had German classes.

What is it common for Japanese learn to Chinese in school?

I know it's more common the other way round because you know Chinese are huge weebs.

English and later Spanish

Bit weird that they put such an emphasis into it

English and German

Well, English is used pretty much in every field of work so it's needed.
Also, it's considered a basic skill that everyone should have.

>English is used pretty much in every field of work so it's needed.
why?
>Also, it's considered a basic skill that everyone should have
