Ich habe in Deutschland zwei Jahre lange gewohnt und gearbeitet. Es ist garantiert, dass mein Deutsch nicht ausgezeichnet ist (ich bin meistens selbst gelernt) aber es ist genug um miteinander zu kommunizieren.

That's weird bc I never claimed to be German although I do have distant German/Italian/Swiss heritage but that's more or less irrelevant anyways since I just like German as a language and find it to be interesting. Why so bitter?

Aber auch hier gehört dort ein Komma hin, außer es ist ein reiner Infinitiv:

Ich bin 25 Jahre alt, komme aus Rhode Island in den USA. Jetzt lebe ich in DC. Ich habe Deutsch für 3 Jahre in der Schule gelernt und im Moment habe ich ein paar Tutoren. Hauptsätlich studiere ich selber mit Videos oder so. Aber ich war auch schonmal in Deutschland, Tübingen um genau zu sein

Jaa das war schon meine Erfahrung. Als ich in Deutschland war, hatte ich doch Möglichkeiten um Deutsch zu reden weil mein Akzent nicht furchtbar ist. Ich konnte als Deutscher darstellen

ehhhhm, it's usually because foreigners tend to be rather bad at speaking German and if you're living in a country where you have to learn English for almost 10 in school and then afterwards as an adult don't have to opportunity to speak it or to practise speaking it with anybody else due to the country being too big/relevant and dominant with its own language (compare that to the Dutch/Swedes/Danes for example) or all local and imported media being dubbed, then of course you're trying to be "nice" by offering your help. If you however ask to keep speaking German, then everybody will understand this and unless you're super bad, they will speak German to you.

Keep in mind this is a line to keep you from posting in /deutsch/

You know, German uses tons of English loan words. And not just loan words, but also tons of other anglicisms. I don't know the reason for this, maybe it's because people learn two languages at school and they want to be or sound "international", whatever. Because of this, using anglicisms unnecessarily and repeatedly is being frowned upon and often times ridiculed. And since we're using loan words in the online world for lots of things like forum "threads" and so on, people reverse the anglicisms by using literal German translations ironically, and over-use these ironic translations massively. This is German online culture in a nutshell.
And unfortunately for you as someone who wants to learn German online, you won't learn a thing from this and rather pick up bad stuff from it. Just stay away from big online forums.
