The reason people are concerned by 3k deaths is not because that's a lot, but because viruses transmission rates are exponential, and not very many people are infected right now

There are 177k recovered and 42k dead, with 853k total cases. That's before the medical system is totally overwhelmed. If a substantial portion of the world population is infected, extrapolate those rates and you get millions dead. With no access to medical care, there's even a chance it could be billions. There are a lot of unknowns right now, that's not a prediction, but as far as worst case scenarios go this event has the potential for a lot of destruction

They generally refuse to test asymptomatic people, because they get lots of false negatives on people who are still in the incubation period. So they're not reflected in official data. All you're saying is that the problem is much bigger than official data suggests
