Ok So it is understandable to commit massacres, I mean, the Israelites have to claim Israel after all. But some of them are not understandable. I can't remember much since it has been a long time since I read Moses books (i read new testament after moses books and then switched back to OT and I read very slowly and lately I haven't been reading since I have been in the army). But yesterday I read like 2 pages and it included that massacre of 12k people . It also included a thief who stole the war booty which was dedicated to God. The punishment for the thief was that him and his family be killed even though his family was not part of the thievery. Also God was very pissed about the thievery so He gave Israelis false information and made them attack the city they would later massacre with too few men which got some soldiers killed and forced Israelites to retreat.
