I was in China when it exploded there, when I came back home the cheapest masks were already €13-15 a piece and most were sold out.

It doesn't work when you still have to go to work, visit customers. Those masks are good for about 4 hours, so that's about 1 week. And you can't wear them longer for that, as you can't breath through them any more.

I say those masks/scarfs don't work because the virus just blows right through them.
The only way masks work is that the people with the virus don't spread it to others, so if you don't have it, it has no use.

Nurses and doctors can barely obtain masks, so it's unfeasible to give advice for the general public to wear them.
Add to that, we're not used to wearing masks. Likelihood is that we'll fiddle with them a lot, likely touching our faces in the process.
