You see, it's impossible to have a healthy political discourse in this country nowadays when what one should really say is just that, "Black people people voted like every other stupid Americans regardless of race did; stupidly against their own interest." However, it's nigh-impossible to say that without either making it sound racist, or actually be racist.

This is because Americans for all our nationalistic fetish have never been a 'people' in a coherent sense of the word. We can hardly identify outside our immediate little identity groups, and therefore the notion that somehow there are common problems that need to be addressed as a common effort really scares people.

Most countries that use first past the post voting are ones that were influenced by the British political system.

I mean it makes sense. Generally to successfully run for president you need a good amount of political or financial capital and connections and building that sort of influence come with years and decades of work.
