evolution has no direction, its possible that an organism undergone more changes and ends up being genetically closer to the primitive form than its nearest predecessor.
genetic drift is literally elementary school subject, people misunderstanding such basic science concept made me cringe so much.

Evolution isn't linear or a progression. "Most evolved" would imply a superior being in this context which would be wrong.
