I wanna apply for student visa but no school in their right mind would ever accept me (i failed a lot of classes because wahhh muh depression/alcoholism) and I can't afford school there

not to scare you, but you might not be able to either. You have to prove that you have 2 million yen for each academic year, so about $72,000 if you wanna study for 4 years. Maybe look into MEXT tho and other scholarships.

I'm gonna finish a bachelors online and try to land a work visa to teach english there once i'm done, then try to study after. Probably won't happen for another 2-3 years though...
