I had a trial with a semi professional futbol/soccer team. It was successful. I signed a little baby contract for two years. While training with them over the summer, I obliterated my kneed on turf and then it was all over lol.

I am a member of a traditional German student's fraternity (Burschenschaft).

It includes fencing duels with sharp blades and few protection (Mensur fencing).
If you get hit by your opponent and blood spills out of your face, you are still supposed to keep going until one of the doctors (always two doctors are present while those duels) cancels the duel due to mortal danger. After the duel the doctor stitches the cut without anaesthesia. Women or outsiders are not allowed to watch those duels, doors and windows must be closed.

Had already two duels yet, luckily didn't get hit. There are people who fight 20 or even 80 duels and have their face or their head full of scars. But they wear their scars (Schmiss) with pride.

Yes, I have a question. I have been fascinated by mensur fencing for a while. Could I have a duel without being part of a fraternity? Which fraternity do you recommend? I am walloon, I live near the border.

I have only found one club in Hamburg that does Holmgang combats, but I need to go there at least for three weeks to train.

It's an old German student's tradition. For training discipline, taking a risk, etc. You are not allowed to draw back. Be a man and stand your ground.

You can fence those duels in friendship or you can challenge another fraternity student to a duel. For example if he behaves dishonourable.

No. Some few fraternities allow like "honorary members" who are not students (called Konkneipant). You could join as a non-student and fence a duel maybe. But it needs ca. one year of daily training for your first duel. At least one hour/5 times a week.

It depends on where you study. I am part of a Burschenschaft. Only ethnical Germans are allowed to join. But by now there are other Burschenschaften which are more liberal and would allow foreigners like you to join too. Landsmannschaft(en) are nice fraternities too. But they are not political like Burschenschaft(en)

They're not a fraternity and what they do is not Mensur fencing. At Mensur fencing you stand in front of you opponent, the distance between you and your opponent is the length of the blade and you stand completely still. You are not allowed to (side)step. Only your arm which leads the blade is moving.

It's complicated to show you how a Mensur looks, because usally footage doesn't get into public. But there is one fraternity which has published a clip of a Mensur on Facebook. Put after the facebook URL: /germania.marburg/videos/299816617389561/

It's required. You have to learn the technique. Nobody can do this without hard training. It already could take months till you are able to hit the opponents head properly and move your arm back to defence position fast enough... and this is just as basic move. Every hit has to be perfect already in training before you can have a duel. In most fencing fraternities you'll get kicked out if you don't participate in daily training, sometimes even if you come too late for training too often.
Even if you are a skilled fencer, you have to participate in training (called Pauken).

I was aware that there are differences. There are not limited to holmgang though, they also practice recontrefechten. I'm afraid that this club Holmgang Hamburg will be my only viable option.
