There's definitely an embargo on Cuba, and it could have been lifted under the Obongo administration, but the cuban government itself is very stubborn and likes to play victim.
Boomers there are still indoctrinated by Castro's propaganda. Younger cubans not so much and they do not endorse this position. They want to be part of the globalized world, instead of being stuck in the 60s.
It's an interesting country to visit.
