What were the reasons behind Yas Forums's decline from being the foremost contributor to meme and internet culture in the late 2000s to being a stale, boring board where the same people everyday make the same threads every day with zero originality or intellect in the late 2010s?

The good hearted, same people left, only the mentally unhinged and cynical remain here these days

gamergate, US election 2016, smartphones

what? gigachad and coomer and angry soyjak with big wide mouth are the best memes!

People who grew up with tablets and social media make up now the majority of the site.

Those people grew up and moved on with their lives while only the dregs remained. Gatekeeping reinforced the same tired, repetitive behaviours and newfag lurkers learned to adopt these standards of what is and is not acceptable.

It attracted to many boring Normies from Gamergate, the iCloud leaks, and the 2016 elections.

Also forgot to mention smartphones.

"Any community that gets its laughs by pretending to be idiots will eventually be flooded by actual idiots who mistakenly believe that they're in good company." Whoever observed this succinctly explained the same thing that happened to Yas Forums.

The site's population shifted from genuine weirdos to somewhat socially challenged youth looking to be edgy.

Back then only one new meme every few months would be generated. Only Yas Forums had the critical mass to make new ones. IMO there are now so many communities able to do so all over the Internet that the ones created by Yas Forums just get lost in the sea of daily new memes.
If Internet still was like back then, soyjack and Gigachad would be THE memes of the year.
Also don't forget pepe came from Yas Forums.

cunny posters geting range baned

Gamerphones, smartgate, elections

>good hearted
>sane

were you on Yas Forums before 2010? This website, Yas Forums in particular, was a place of 24/7 bullying/doxing/ and other forms of organized online mischief and cruelty. Yas Forums has definitely lost its edge after the MAGAtts and kekistani retards moved in, but the one thing I'm somewhat relieved by is that Yas Forums's current culture is far tamer than it used to be.

I bet there was a thread like this asking this question a decade ago

fuck off newfag

Culture we live in changed. Yas Forums came to reflect this change.

This is the only correct answer btw

there were a lot of threads in Yas Forums saying that anyone who came after 2008 and the many raids should fuck off

Literally nothing changed, this place is the same shithole it was 15 years ago

This. Yas Forums's antics of 06-08 are what propelled the term 'doxxing' into mainstream use.
Also this. "Yas Forums used to be good" threads became a meme in the aftermath of chanology.

This quote turns 8 years old in a few days

t. post-election tourist

no way man, the Yas Forums of 2008 would be mostly unrecognizable to a guy that started browsing Yas Forums on Yas Forums in 2018
it's similar in certain ways but also a lot has changed

Yup

I think russians seem to have something to do with it, they spam a lot of nonsense under proxies quite often, like this is a battleground for world opinion or something. Frankly I hope russia gets hit by an asteroid so they'll fuck off permanently.

It was better before the fappening, and before normies started breaking the rules.

Asians. They ruin everything

Phoneposting enabled kids to post from school and normies to post from work/their girlfriends' houses. Yas Forums should only ever be browsed on a desktop PC.

I don’t know, I’ve only been here for six years.
(And I don’t care)

I guess most people already want to fuck off. You are better off wasting time on facebook or instagram at least there you won’t have porn shoved in your face every minute

Yas Forums wasn't as much of a waste of time back then for reasons I've mentioned in the OP, there were less alternatives and it was actually enjoyable to be a part of it, even for a small while
but yeah, browsing Yas Forums right now is pointless, I'd unironically watch youtube videos over this place and only keep coming here because old habits die hard

What do you mean?

we made the best of the new memes

like the crying wojak
or the angry wojak
or the soy wojak (named soyjack)
or the chad wojak
or the balding wojak
or the npc wojak
or the red angry Fresco wojak
or the melvin wojak

It was a shithole (it's always been), but not the same kind. It went from being downright radioactive into being a merely offensive shock-jock hangout. The kind of activity which Yas Forums engaged in back then really would land people in jail nowadays, the only issue was that internet culture and cyber law had yet to develop the legal language and measures to counter such behavior.
It's no surprise that moot was frequently getting pushed to the edge by all the police and government attention that this website started getting after 2006. It was common for rant about it in threads and cite it as a reason why he began complying with federal investigations so readily.

They are all fundamentally edits from a MS paint illustration posted many years ago. It's pretty much to describe oneself or mock another.

>it was common for him to rant*

Keeping janny busy

yeah I agree, IIRC I remember people being mad at moot for giving data to the FBI after some guy killed his gf or something and posted it on Yas Forums

Yas Forums still is the origin point of most of the non-normie memes the internet over. I think you’ve got a very overly rose-colored view of 2000s Yas Forums.

possibly, but memes are almost completely normified now and I'm pretty sure it was better back then, even if not as good as I originally thought

lmao at all these stale, uninteresting hot takes, as if anyone fucking gives a shit about your worthless opinions on the meta. you're part of the problem fuckheads. if youre going to be boring just stay silent

people were saying the site changed for the worst in 2012.

Maybe it's because I've been here through my teens and twenties but I'll admit that no matter how cringy and insipid Yas Forums is nowadays, I prefer it over past Yas Forums culture since a bunch of harmless edgelords are more tolerable than an equally sized group of people with extreme antisocial personality disorder.

This but unironically.

Soul.

old Yas Forums was more thrilling because old 4channers were utterly repugnant and unbridled subhumans.

Current Yas Forums is a hugbox for disaffected western youth who want to be culture contrarians but only in the safest, laziest, and most toothless way imaginable... and IMO this makes Yas Forums a bit more pleasant to browse.

I seriously don't miss the days of routine CP dumps in every fucking thread, frequent site freezes to investigate shooting/bomb/violence threats, arbitrary bans, liferuin doxxes, raids, media shitstorms, kimmo alm spam, images with embedded viruses among other mischief.

Forget the past there is only forward user

I blame Project Chanology. It was an epic win dont get me wrong, but a new kind of new faggotery entered the ecosystem after that.

mainstream i guess. like other social media, most users dont create anything or contribute new ideas.

wish we could turn back time

ah

the moralfag

the old enemy

kek, haven't heard that epithet in a really long time.

You do a good job making it sound even more fun
The true reason old Yas Forums is dead is simple
Nothing gold can stay

it came to me like a phantom as I read your post, tearing itself from my lips with all the weighty resistance of a rusty door

Politics
People don't new or non political memes anymore, it's irrelevant to them.

kys

in italy, the culture kills you!!! :DDDD

What is there to do on instagram or facebook?

It's very sad.
I drew a meme picture once, have been posting it on many boards and although anons complimented me for it it never gained any traction.
Then one year later I posted it on know your meme and it exploded overnight. You guys can't meme anymore, you're only good at seething

Zoomers

It was fun in the same way that being a part of a notorious street gang in one's youth is fun. It leaves you with a wealth of exciting memories, but it's not something you'd ever condone as a grown up.

indeed, something has died, and we haven't figured out what it is yet

was it moot?
