We HAD more beds, ventilators etc per capita, though the only numbers I've seen are from 10 years ago.
Many hospitals couldn't stay profitable because they served mainly the elderly and/or poor and had to rely on payouts from medicaid/medicare... literally Euro-tier payouts, as opposed to nice private insurance payouts. They had to close out.

No matter though. Nobody but nobody has enough beds to go around for this. Private/public are all fucked.

Most politics in the US are local. I live in Nebraska and our governor and mayor has had us strictly quarantined for weeks. Im not sure what people are talking about when they say the US is handling it poorly. Some states are still trying to get some kind of testing up and running, and for the longest time (all through Feb) almost every state had to mail any Corona samples to the CDC to be tested. Much like most of EU we are still only testing pretty serious cases, nothing SK tier.
