The media shapes/selects news for a narrative (e.g., hate China), but it does so by constantly be renewing the news cycle with something that people assumes is relevant (e.g., the health crisis). After that people forget.
I doubt the protest will get a resurgence, since China has won that one by sitting it out (had time on their side) and refocusing it on the HK police for a lot of the hate.
