EVERYBODY hates the Hausa-Fulani. They’re violent muslim knuckledraggers who have acted as lapdogs for oyinbo governments since the 19th century. They WANTED to form their own ethnic state until they learned Biafra had oil and gladly jumped back into the “union” so they could profit while Igbos, Efiks, and Ijaws sufferered. Kenyans probably have a sense of civic nationalism because their revolution was relatively successful compared to so many other african independence movements.
Or Rwanda, besides the whole genocide thing, had a sense of nationhood going back a long time (with the tutsi ruling class of course)- it was pretty easy for them to go back to their rigidly organized society.
The places where ethnic strife is the worst seem to be caused by the same mistake that the west made in the middle east- these countries are just too goddamn big. Consider the relatively stable small states surrounding Nigeria, or Botswana which is huge and empty besides a couple relatively safe cities.
