>Research my genealogy
>Can't find info about my ancestors of Scottish descent because the Scottish have like 5 last names total and there are 1000000 people with the same exact name
What did Scotland mean by this?
Research my genealogy
You have to say the surname.
>New world abominacion and muh ancestry thread again
Why are you doing this...
lol
O'Neil
Brennan
Murphy
Shut the fuck up, racist swine.
0 of those are Scottish.
They were Scottish Gaelic.
Eat shit, where did you see racism, imbecile?
No they aren't.
They are Irish not Scottish Gaelic.
I'd like to see proof of these claims.
Based if true
those are irish mate
This, I don't get why they are so obsessed with it
Scots and Irish are the same ethnically and by names.
Care to explain why they emigrated from Scotland if they were not Scottish?
Scots have all those McX surnames, some of them shared with the Irish. But Murphy is the quintessential Irish surname, as are O'X ones.
All three of those names are Irish and murphy and O’Neill are very common Irish names
Your direct ancestors that went to canada may be scottish but those 3 surnames originate in Ireland. They must have come from here somewhere further down the line
Okay. Still, it's a pain in the ass to find anything about these people because so many of you Irish share the same full names.
>where did you see racism
In your post, you fucking idiot. Just how fucking braindead are you Yas Forumstards?
Go back, idiot.
I know your pain bro
Feels good to be German. All my ancestors had weird ass names.
My last name is Campbell.
Unlike Old Worlders and their dumb boring "heritages" that span a single inbred village full of unadventurous farmers 99% of the time, New Worlders have interesting and cool heritages spanning the entire globe, full of colorful characters and adventurers journeying to new lands.
Ah, you're just mutts being mutts, feeling rootless?
Mein name icht Felgemacher
What? Don't attempt to speak languages you don't know at all
>WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY AND THE PEOPLE WHO CREATED YOU
kys
More like rootFULL.
Ever seen an Old Worlders 23andme or family tree? They have like 2-3 roots tops. Bunch of farmers from the exact same country the Old Worlders live in now (sometimes the exact same region the Old Worlder lives in now), until the modern era where the farmers slowly move to modern jobs or fight in WWII or something.
If I was an Old Worlder I probably wouldn't care about my ancestors either.
Why do you care about their nationalities? Why does it matter what country they were from?
My name is Felgemacher you stupid Turkish cumdumpster.
>muh Scottish heritage
Any information about your ancestors helps, you don't just find more info on them by searching their name, you need to search with their birthdate, birthplace, etc.
does it means that this bitch will get rid of her tattoos?
Then it should be "Mein Nachname ist Felgemacher". As I said, if you're so proud of being German, why can't you even write basic words like "ist"?
I'm not Turkish.
Because they are mutts, their countries are soulless and Historylet and they need something they can relate to.
>Research my genealogy
He's proud his great grandpappy was German. He's a cultureless mutt.
No. You will never understand.
t. proxy
Its part of their story and informs part of what their lives looked like and what they went through. Imagine trying to learn about any person and not knowing what country they lived in. Its like trying to learn about something without knowing what time they lived in.
The most essential things are for me, where and when they were born, where and when they died, their occupation and military service record if any. Anything else is a wonderful extra (and some of my ancestors did write memoirs, or had their family members write memoirs, or were part of court cases that I can look up later), but even those basics tell a story that an Old Worlder could never hope to appreciate. Because for you its just "German farmer" all the way down.
I am half Armenian.
I am paternally Armenian and maternally Russian.
I was adopted from Yekaterinburg.
>Because for you its just "German farmer" all the way down.
It's really not. Why do you think your ancestors are special but every old worlders ancestor was "just a farmer lol"? That makes no sense.
But I do get better what you mean now. Most people just seem to care about "muh DNA" and not really actually what their forefathers did. That's pretty interesting, I admit, although I never researched. I just asked my grandparents what their grandparents did, I heard plenty of stories.
Hello, my half-Armenian friend. These posters are claiming that my Scottish ancestors are actually Irish. It's really hard to tell anything about my mom's ancestors because most of them didn't record their forefathers.
History taught in school is about famous, rich people. I'd much rather read about the stories of average people who were like me. Plus you really feel a connection to these people since they are directly related to you.
i wasn't ready for this knowledge
>History taught in school is about famous, rich people. I'd much rather read about the stories of average people who were like me.
I'm not sure how that's related to my post? As I said, it get being curious how your ancestors lived
You're missing my point, genealogy is just a history that is more personal and connected to you.
>WHY DO YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FAMILY AND THE PEOPLE WHO CREATED YOU
This.
I know absolutely nothing about my family, they're all dead and achieved little if anything, I could not care less.
Is it? How?
You sound like a self-loathing emo
All sides of my family are German. I don't know how to speak it because there is no one to speak it with.
My grandmother had the last name Morrow, which is apparently only common in Northern Ireland.
They're directly related to you and more like you - in more ways than just DNA, as wealth and occupation are often passed on - than the famous people we read about in history.
You don't need to speak with people around you to learn a language. Especially not when it comes to writing
I know that. But that's what I mean, most people just care about their "genetic origin" instead of knowing what their ancestors' occupations were or whatever. And I don't really have to research it, as my grandparents told me a lot about their parents and grandparents. I still don't get where you get the "famous people" bit from
You don't get it, I'm saying studying your own genealogy is similar to studying history. Are you autistic?
>I'm saying studying your own genealogy is similar to studying history
I guess I just don't agree with that. For me those are two extremely different things
It's depressing to try to learn a language with no one to speak it to.
>It's really not. Why do you think your ancestors are special but every old worlders ancestor was "just a farmer lol"? That makes no sense.
New Worlders select for people who abandoned their farmlands and families and took risks to journey to an entirely new continent where they didnt even speak the language half the time. They heard life was better across an entire ocean (a world away back in the olden days) and said "see ya" to their farms.
Old Worlders select for people who stayed with their farmlands and went with the flow. They valued community and stability.
This is an oversimplification but it helps explain why Old Worlders AREN'T into heritage as much.
> I'm saying studying your own genealogy is similar to studying history.
Just wanna say I DO agree with this. Its your family's history, the history of the common people who are thrown around by the larger forces of history
You could use italki. You can drop by /lang/ if you want to know more, there's plenty of options to speak to people
That still means that your ancesters were just farmers, though. Just that they stopped being farmers in their own country. And it's not like people here never stopped being farmers here. In fact the vast majority of people werent farmers anymore several generations ago.
Lol my mother's maiden name is Dunlap which came from Dunlop because they changed it I guess
My family tree be something like this.
I feel bad for you. Germans are really mean if you make a mistake and will mock you.
you're like half bird
I had legit trouble understanding what he meant because I couldn't tell if he meant to say "ist" or "nicht". No one mocks people here for getting a word gender wrong or something but if you want to learn a language you really really know how to spell extremely basic words like "is"... otherwise it's hard to comprehend
