>Rather than it being about Ireland being Irish
No it was very much about Ireland being Irish. The United Irishmen leaders were passionate patriots who valued Ireland's freedom, and indeed the Irish language, over the petty divides of Catholic, Protestant or Dissenter. The divides which were exacerbated by the British government to begin with.
Don't fall for the propaganda that being Irish is inherent on being a good Catholic. Never forget how the Catholic clergy were comfy bedfellows with the British government for the better part of a century. They opposed the rebellion just like they opposed the Easter Rising.
>it allows for anyone to be Irish, from Billy Orangeman to Mboko
This is some bullshit here, Wolfe Tone absolutely and utterly despised the Orange Order. He frequently referred to them as hooligan puppets of the British government that were only created to cause mischief. He was planning to completely destroy the organisation once he got back to Ireland.
Don't try to bring modern foreigners into this either, not only was such immigration a rare sight in European nations at the time, but I guarantee you that Tone would never have permitted it. Why you may ask? Because he spent time living in America. And he hated it. He hated every single immigrant group living in the nascent United States. He wrote lines and lines in his diary of how much he despised the Dutch, Germans, English and whatever other races were inhabiting the land of 18th century Pennsylvania. There's no way he would want to turn Ireland into that. And his legacy can hardly be blamed either considering how strongly the Irish Republican Brotherhood admired him while Thomas Clarke is quoted as saying "There are any amount of niggers living hereabouts and we Irish as a rule don't care for coming too much into contact with those absurd folk". Blame the government of the previous two decades for our current immigration system, not the previous two centuries.
Cont'd.
>At least O'Neill declared he would kill and expel any Norman-Irish who did not join in the Gaelic struggle
The same O'Neills who were happy vassals of the English crown for centuries? The same O'Neills that were such best buddies with Edward III that they accompanied him on crusade? The same Hugh O'Neill who made repeated offers to Elizabeth I that he would call off the rebellion at any moment if they could go back to how things were before the war, ie; Ireland still controlled by the English but the O'Neill family getting to stay happy to themselves in Ulster while the rest of the country suffers?
That O'Neill?
The only thing he wanted was to be able to appoint his own Catholic sheriffs, he was perfectly satisfied with paying fealty to England otherwise.
>any Norman-Irish who did not join in the Gaelic struggle
So you're saying that he would have been fine with any John that sided with him? How is that any different from Tone wanting to unite all denominations of Ireland against England's presence in our country?
>was going to ethnically cleanse the Pale to create a true Gaelic Ireland
Source on that claim? O'Neill wanted and needed all the help he could get, I find it hard to believe that he would throw away potential allies when even someone like Brian Boru wasn't willing to drive the Norse from Dublin.
I'm sorry to have started this thread off on with this block of text, I went to bed early last night so I didn't see the post until morning. Apologies to anyone who wasn't interested in such autism.

>antithesis: keep the niggers out and destroy the unionist vermin
>synthesis: allow african immigration BUT recruit them into einsatzgruppen to exterminate orangemen
oh shit
Daring synthesis: recruit Africans into the Orange Order to destroy it from within.

Was Damo and Ivor the worst show RTÉ ever made?
Ireland's fittest family
I've heard that it's bad, but I've never actually watched it. What makes it so atrocious that it beats Damo and Ivor?
Considering the immense amount of shite RTÉ produces, I doubt it can even be the worst of the week it was first released.
it's just boring, like who gives a shit who the fittest family in Ireland is
