Name a better Dreamworks villain. I'll wait.

Lord Farquad...his name, kek.
I liked Tighten.
The only one even close is Stoick the Vast, and he's not the villain, just the antagonist, in a literal sense.
Imma be honest I prefer Tai Lung
I think Pitch from ROTG was pretty good.
What's so great about him ? He was just a prick. Starts using fireworks for evil purposes for no reason and then commits genocide after hearing about some prophecy. Tai Lung actually had proper motives to become evil. Also, Panda 1 didn't reveal the villain's backstory at the very start of the film
Panda 2 was a bad film that, quite simply, doesn't work as an engaging narrative. Change my mind
ur rong
The film isn't engaging. Po isn't that interesting once he becomes a warrior, Shifu is almost completely absent, Furious 5 are one dimensional and have no chemistry with each other, the whole fireworks as a weapon is hard to take seriously, there's no tension since the toothsayer keeps telling Shen that Po will kick his ass no matter what, too much backstory revealed at the beginning, thus removing a sense of mystery, etc. Also, the jokes and character banter aren't nearly as good as in the first film.
Only the first film was any good imo. It was the only one whose story was written by the guys that created the characters and franchise. Think about it, Po's backstory in the second film wasn't even written by the guys who created the character in the first place
Because Gary Oldman performs so well in it.
>>fireworks as a weapon are hard to take seriously
Nigga do you not know the history of gunpowder?
Still not enough. He needed a more intimidating design, a better backstory and evil plan
>Commits genocide out of fear of a prophecy
>Plans to overthrow the entire country
Nah it's all good. I don't know what you want out of it but he's got all he needs and more
Gunpowder against kung fu was just silly imo. I couldn't take the climax seriously. Don't try to change my mind. I really liked the first film, but both sequels missed the mark for me
>Gunpowder against kung fu was just silly imo.
Why? Gunpowder and the introduction there of was a huge deal.
It could've been nice to have some mention of him in the first movie, instead of being a random character that appears out of nowhere. It also would've been nice to reveal his backstory halfway through the film instead of the start. Finally, they should've gone for something more original than Frieza and Goku
Shen was a mentally ill prince who’s parents where so incompetent they went to a soothsayer for advice instead of actually dealing with their son. Their abandonment and his fragile mind turned him into an obsessed monster.
He wasn’t “just a prick”
>can’t take it seriously as the first ones climax
>the climax of the first one where Po beats Tai Lung with slapstick humor
Would you have taken it more seriously if Po plucked his feathers?
I mean, what exactly is the appropriate response to being told "a panda is going to kill you" by an actual, mystical seer?
Fuck you can really see and hear the fear he has every time he finds out Po is still alive, thats what makes him my favorite villain
Star wars made up Darth Vader being connected to Luke on the second movie that came out.
Creators retconning and changing stories of films is nothing new, it’s done all the time
I didn’t know DBZ invented fated battles
Yet it's all backstory that it's thrown in at the very start of the film in a rushed way in 2D animation. It sounds great on paper, but the execution is sloppy, so you can't take the drama seriously. The chipmunks writers don't know how to write proper drama
Whatever. Empire Strikes Back wasn't made just to get a quick buck, unlike this. Lucas actually wanted to tell a story, Dreamworks only wanted to make a brand expansion, like they always do
He only got told that he'd be defeated, not killed, by a panda, and only if he continued doing bad shit
I always thought that both Shen and Tai Lung were kinda whiny/petty. They kill people over their daddy issues and, in Tai Lung's case, a scroll.
I'd watch Bee Movie anyday over this. Far better script in every way. Shame that Yas Forums only cares about superficially dark stuff
Tai Lung actually had reasons to become evil. He spent half of his life being trained to become the dragon warrior, only to get refused for vague reasons. No wonder he felt entitled to have the scroll. He felt like he earned it
>I couldn't take the climax seriously.
user gunpowder WAS the death of kung fu. Literally. HISTORICALLY.
Before guns men lived and died by the strength and skill of their hands,
After guns any peasant with a steady arm and at least one eye could kill any man he wanted.
The real villain was the goat cunt piece of shit who should have died.
Fireworks are bombs dude. They're literally fucking bombs with a little magnesium to make pretty colors. The only difference between a firework mortar and a regular mortar is the ratios and the casing
Did you forget all his scenes with the soothsayer? They portray that side of him throughout the movie, until his death.
Besides, what would be the benefit of revealing that information later? It would have been obvious what Shen did. The reveal that matters is what did Po's parents did, not Shens crime.
And by revealing it early it gives the writers freedom to tackle his issues throughout the movie, unlike Tai Lung who had his backstory revealed at the last minute
