Did Otto truly care about Peter in the end?
I got sort of a mixed feeling on their relationship at the end of the game, like Peter would treat him like any other criminal while Doc seemed to be spiteful towards him.
Did Otto truly care about Peter in the end?
They initially tried to set it up that it was just otto going mad, but honestly he was a manipulator through and through he was planning the break out since he discovered that pete was spider-man though I'm surprised we never got anything with otto tampering with his suit
In a way, yes, but he wasn't going to allow him to stand in the way of his revenge. Otto thought that Peter would come around, that he would see things the same way and go after Norman too. Doc at heart was a petty, resentful, and manipulative asshole who represents what Peter could have become had he isolated himself and wasted his intellect on grudges.
I feel like Otto almost wanted to give Spider-Man a fighting chance, he did have respect for him.
He secretly wanted to fuck his skinny twink ass. Not that I blame him.
Speaking of manipulative, I thought Peter's emotional rant at the end was uncomfortable. Dude's a grown ass man talking about how much he worshiped the ground Otto walked on because he was a cool boss.
They had a homosexual fling. Peter because he's young and wants to experiment and Otto because he's having a midlife crisis.
I mean it's a bit reductive to refer to Otto as just a cool boss. Otto was a "visionary Scientist" that Peter deeply respected.
It's working alongside the top of your field, someone who's passion is infectious, who's ideas are revolutionary and who has a genuine love for the pageantry of your craft. then you find out that that was all an act and underneath is just a petty man using those same skills you idolised for petty vengeance.
I get it.
Think back to the amount of bosses you've had that have actually managed to get you to respect them and their love of the field. they are rare.
In Otto’s in-game bio they mentioned that Peter looked up to him as a hero since he was a child and working with him was a dream come true.
Peter’s only 23, even with the shit he’s been through he’s still learning about the world and I assume in this game’s universe he’s never truly been betrayed before.
That was apparent when Peter started fighting them in groups of 2 instead of all 6 at once.
does he deserve a redemption arc when they make a 2nd game?
what would be the best possible way to do it without forgetting about he killed aunt may and without having to resort to sacrificing himself in order to save peter then he is forgiven, i swear that trope needs to die
He becomes a romance option.
Maybe having him team up with you against Norman Osborn when he becomes the Green Goblin (maybe as either a revenge thing against Norman and begrudgingly helping Spider-Man or realizing Peter was right all along)? It’s kind of hard to say given that Peter views him beyond redemption now even though he pities him for his condition, if I were to guess most likely Peter will ask for his help while he’s locked up in prison and he’ll have to bargain with Otto (like when Otto attempted to blackmail him at the end). It’s hard to say when Otto’s neuro-deterioration began and whether it was the reason he went through with assembling the Sinister Six which makes him so interesting to me.
Fuck man I think he’s my favorite Doc Ock adaptation now, maybe slightly ahead of Alfred Molena.
>does he deserve a redemption arc when they make a 2nd game?
Not full redemption but I could see norman going full goblin (making it to fully cure Harry), and them bringing in Otto when spiderman doesn't produce results in taking goblin down. This is of course is a ploy to escape and fight Norman Mano e' mano. But in the end instead of taking the chance to kill Norman himself he saves peter.
It’s so satisfying when Peter manages to pull Doc’s neural interface chip out through stabbing himself, after Doc Ock gives that smug look like he’s won.
Its closer to who otto really was than Molena's character. I still love the 90s character for his audacity and spectaculars otto is pretty good to
Yeah he definitely reminded me a lot of comic book Doc Ock at the end (especially when he gives that little blackmail threat to Peter before he leaves him for the police).
They did a good job with portraying Ottos true insidiousness, though I wish he was a bit goofy like his comic counterpart, I don't really see PS4 otto starting a turf war with hammerhead
Maybe his neurosis will make him wackier?
I can't believe they made him bald, goshdarnit.
I like it more than his comics bowl cut to be honest
Nah the whole universe is a little to grounded for that, I mean look what they did to hammerhead. Though I still don't get they they gave hammerhead silvermanes story arc
I still feel kind of bad for him knowing he probably doesn’t have control over the bad shit he does anymore and he’s just being locked in a prison cell with none of the treatment Peter could have given him.
It’s interesting though how the game baits you into thinking the news coverage of Osborn is what turned him over the edge when it actually stemmed further back to Osborn shutting his lab down.
>that moment where you think Otto might have some good left in him but then his evil side tries to blackmail him over his identity as a tiny bit of leverage towards helping him that turns Peter away from him
>that pathetic scream Otto yells at Peter because he knows his mind is doomed in his body now
Fuck man
Can it just be said that William Salyers was a perfect Otto? I was really happy they reused him for MUA3.
I think it was well founded. Look at everything they just went through, and Otto then proceeds to try and manipulate Peter’s emotions. Peter saw through the attempt and was disgusted that the man he almost saw as a second father figure was in reality the type of man Spider-Man has to keep at bay.
This is a good point. I know I have a very deep respect for my boss at work, and if he pulled some shady shit I would definitely feel hurt in some way, even if it’s unfounded.
He saw otto as almost the father he hadn't had since Ben died. So the fact that not only did Otto turne to such horrible measures, he did it fully knowing that Peter was Spiderman, nearly killing him at least once
I do wonder how much of it was really an act, and how much of it was genuine.
Maybe, tragically, even Otto doesn't even know anymore.
If anyone read it, there was an issue within the second spider verse event where Superior Spider-Man visits the PS4 world and learns about Otto and secretly sends spider bots to break him out of prison, I'm hoping this is addressed in the sequel
Peter was his Shabbos Goy. The real reason he invented the arms was so he wouldn't have to pay him anymore.
