Japanese are even based when it comes to western cartoons. Make them cuter and sexier. They take their craft seriously. Also that Dipper cosplayer in the background. Can't say I have high expectations, but I think he is a cutie.

The fact that Westaboo is what stuck instead of Freeaboo makes me seethe.

why is that japanese art is so easily identifiable from the western?

Japanese culture is about conforming to what the best approach is. It's looked down upon when you stray too far. That means any rising artist in Japan would naturally view/learn similar techniques as the correct way to study.

Western culture is more chaotic but also grants a lot of freedom. It is embraced when you can form your own genuine voice. That's why there is a lot more variety/range within our art but there's also a bunch of things you love next to art styles that disgust you because it's subjective.
