Why do cartoons these days do this?

Why do cartoons these days do this?

Because games are mainstream

They did it back in the day with other cartoons and movies but no one cares about that anymore, games are the only thing that truly matters

cartoons have been doing references for ages but i swear its becoming more prevalent recently, and sometimes even in the place of jokes

>haha i recognise that, and it makes me feel good

>but i swear its becoming more prevalent recently
Are you fucking kidding me?

>2008 isnt relatively recent
surely u need to be older to be on Yas Forums right user?

i would rather have it as a background easter egg than an actual direct reference in the show.

No, you're just older and recognize more references.

references and cameos are funny and fun

More than a decade old is not recent, my dude, not even relatively

background easter eggs or on-screen jokes are both fine, i just want less of the comedy to boil down to "hey! i know that thing!"

write jokes first, insert easter eggs after. if uve put in a reference and consider it ur joke quote done for the day u go sit right tf back down and reconsider

You just haven't watched enough cartoons. Loony Tunes specifically were always dripping with topical cultural references most people will never get unless they're 73.

>animu doesnt count cus its japan and snake metal gear was japaness

no one has done any mental gymnastics about plagiarism vs shoutouts in the thread yet so dont imply shit before someone has had a chance to be the sperg

who are u quoting

When are you quoting?

I'm quotin' ya mom, quotin', quotin' ya mom

>quoting

I like when it's clever.

Glitch Techs did it better, though 90% of that show is referencing other things.

Where can I get me one of those?

That "trend of humor" is even earlier than Disaster Movie. Try start of 2000's, my friend.

The twitter/tumblr generation is cringe.

Scary Movie came out in exactly 2000.

Looney Tunes operates almost entirely off of alternating between referential humor when it isn't slapstick comedy or wordplay.
Just because you were too underaged to understand the references held within the cartoons you grew up with doesn't mean it "suddenly became more prevalent" just because you're finally privy to the more recent references in more recent cartoons.

More like Vapid Snake

Cartoons have always done this. They referenced boomer and gen X shit before (and you probably didn't get it) because they were made by boomers and gen Xes. They reference millennial shit now because they're made by millennials. They reference more video games and anime because video games and anime are what the creators grew up with.

The Howl House is pretty cute so it get a pass.

Scary Movie 1 I'll give a pass because at least it was still on par of other parody movies like Airplane! and Spaceballs.

After that, though, the mere sight of, "Get it? Oprah Winfrey. That's the joke" was all those movies became.

the real question is why you're so triggered over a fucking easter egg

>no Eda x Solid Snake fanart
