Why are so many female superhero redesigns so fucking condescending? Do they seriously expect people to read a fun comic book when people are dressed in the same "realistic" textures and bland, boring color pallets?
Also, redesign thread, I guess.

This color scheme evokes a decrepit utility room in a 60 year old school.

That pretty much describes all of this person's designs.
They're so focused on being hyper realistic that they forget the basic question of, "Hey! Does this actually look like something people will want to read about?"
These redesigns all look boring, flat, and uninteresting. I'm not even going to post their Power Girl design.

I don't mind practical outfits, but I hate the tacticool/muted colors, and the lack of fucking inspiration when it comes to redesigns like this. There's a reason Japan is kicking ass with MHA.

Most of these crappy redesigns overlook the inspiration behind the original designs as well. Wonder Woman's design is iconic for a reason, it just works. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

They're forgetting that superheroes are by their nature, bright and colorful and eye catching, to grab the reader's attention and suck them into the story. They should clearly embody a personality and an idea, and be made to sell merchandise. This guy does remember that you have to get kids hooked first, right?

This artist is forgetting that Wonder Woman and Power Girl...are superhuman.

And this guy can fuck off about domino masks, they rock and they CAN work. And who gives a shit about fingerprints or gloves or hair? What he's suggesting doesn't make sense, the world he's thinking of doesn't make sense with the characters he's using and the comic world he's getting them from.

Do you guys want to pitch redesign ideas for characters who need them or who never had a decent alt-look as good as their base design? It's interesting to examine why certain costumes withstand the test of time.

For example both Superman and Spider-Man have costumes that are pretty much perfect, and the rare redesign/alt costume that work don't stray too far from the base

>Forgetting that Superman's inspiration was the strong man wrestler

>Thinking patriotism/US iconography is bad

>Forgetting that comic books are fantasical by nature and that not everything has to be realistic because that would defeat the point of fantasy and escapism

>Not knowing that Raiden from MGS can rock heels and kick ass still

>Forgetting that WW is still VERY strong and her bracelets existing AND her own superhuman durability

Seriously, what the hell? Does this person not know you can't sell this idea and make money off it? When I think WW...this is not what comes to mind.

I've always loved how simple Spider Man's design is, and yet it clearly still shows his wrestling/luchadore influence as well as clearly showing he's a Spider...MAN.

I think most people these days try and overstuff or understuff designs for capes, and it's really disappointing. They end up way too busy or way too plain. All you need is a name and a few ideas for inspiration that can be strung together by a single string of logic and boom! Instant hero or villain.

That outfit is basically like.... nothing at all. She could very well wear a tshirt and jeans

I mean, just look at AFO for a good villain design. You got the Vader mask and the skull resemblance in the mask and the business suit. This is someone who's representing death, control, the lack of a face shows the inhuman-ness of the character, this is clearly a big scary ass villain who's the head honcho for a reason. This guy is evil.

Yep. Where's the inspiration? What idea am I supposed to take away from her appearance? What impression is she supposed to leave on the audience or the characters in the world? In Worm, there's a reason why new Wards have to get their outfits checked and revised - they have a reputation to uphold and to sell. Or in MHA, where there's something similar, with suits made with powers and marketability in mind too.

I think the key to any redesign is knowing what core elements MUST remain. Take pic related for instance, Heat Wave. Rogues have bright colors, campy attire, and usually have simple designed tools

Here are the rest.

Is this asshole displaced from the 19 fucking 20s?

Elektra is the worst easily.

Zatanna looks way closer to being Scarlet Witch.

Red Sonja is the most acceptable.

Well I can tell you that they already fail the silhouette and colour test. They all blend together.

Gonna be honest I don't hate any of these.
The short hair on the newest one is the worst aspect of any of them.

Remove the spikes on the hell on earth cover and I would actually really like that design.

Satana

Middle bottom row is best by far.

The best Vampirella design isn't on that chart it's the version of the classic suit with thigh high boots (black or red).

Bumped up the saturation. Not perfect but at least they don't look like they were filmed in a subway tunnel.
Supergirl has no blue.

A lot of people have taken the idea of “Female costumes are often sexualized in a way that don’t make match the aesthetics of their male contemporaries” and reduced that to “Sexualizing a female character’s design in any way is always bad”.

>Even the producers of the most recent Superman mvie could see that the "iconic" blue red and yellow colour combo is just atrocious
Oh, so this person simply just doesn't care or give a shit about Superheroes at all, let alone the design choices and use of colour behind them? And yet they have the audacity to make a "revamped" costume for them?
Fuck. Off.

That looks more like a live action tacticool outfit for Black Canary, giving a nod towards her classic look without traumatizing US audiences of today.

The costume redesigns I can't stand seem to try to minimize color palette to the point where it's almost a solid black suit with some details in a single other color. It's either that or shit tons of unnecessary details like every version of Iron Man after the 90's.

>by Ingvard the Terrible

Well, at least he's honest.

Seriously fuck that person. Mos still left plenty of colors in Superman's design.

>Do they seriously expect people to read a fun comic book

No, they expect people to give them good boy points for virtue signalling how "disrespectful towards women" female superhero designs are.

And trust me, it fucking works, because people are fucking dumb, life is too fucking easy and they honestly have nothing better to do than pretend that this picture offends real people who matter. It doesn't. Human beings who matter are not offended by depictions of beautiful people. Only subhuman GARBAGE people, "people" who HATE beauty, think this.

>all of those text blurbs

Women were a mistake

I love how "stripper" is the new buzzword for "outfit element that shows the slightest bit of skin"

Right? For all the ranting and raving about female empowerment these days it feels like people are going out of their way to shame the female form. Did we all just travel back to the 1800s and deem showing ankle lewd?

The weirdest thing is that this is mainly for nerd media because non nerd media is raunchy.

The Supergirl one looks extremely shit. No colour, no life, no vibrancy. Nothing.

>blue, red, and yellow is atrocious

Into the trash she goes.

I never liked WW but my god this is ugly
