All character development for both characters were thrown out the window in favor of "lesbian representation". PB can't face any consequences for atrocities she's committed as a queen because she's a groundbreaking lesbian character for CN, so she MUST have a happy ending with Marcy. Real world reaction interfered with the crafting of a fictional story so it just became, "What's good for PR at CN" vs. "What's good for the story?".
